DVD Profiler?

I'm not sure how many people still use or ever used, but I do and love. My friend just got it and he mentioned something about adding friends. Can I add his collection and him mine somehow? Thanks.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I don't know about through the app, but there is an online component too.

Invelos Software, Inc. My Profiler

A lot of people around here have the links to their DVD Profiler collection in their sig.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I don't know if you actually clicked the link (the new forum changed to a text description) but it takes you to Add friends via the site.

Code:
http://www.invelos.com/MyProfiler.aspx?display=friends
You'll probably have to sign in first in order to see it.

Re: DVD Profiler?

Thought I would bump this thread to see anyone who still use and/or have visited the forum since there's some kind of runtime error that won't allow anyone to post or upload new profiles. Basically want to reconnect with users since can't contact them there atm.

Really? When did you last try? This seemed to start on 6/26. I did earlier and when I tried uploading a new title, got a runtime error on the site.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I just used it less than hour ago. Opened and closed couple times. Added titles. Updated profiles. Downloaded info to webpage of collection.

Re: DVD Profiler?

Yeah, I'm able to update and upload the profiles within the application but when I try to add a new title to the online database (where others have access and eventually download once approved), I get this:

Re: DVD Profiler?

They have an app now? I remember paying. I guess I should look into the app. I haven't added any titles in a long time. I remember the reports you could run.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I do see that runtime error when I try to sign in at the Invelos forum.

I just opened the database on my computer and it prompted me to update profiles. I clicked yes and that went through successfully.

I have not tried to create or upload a new profile of my own, but for what it's worth, I did add a disc to my collection the other day and DVDProfiler found the profile and downloaded it without issue.

I'm not able to log into the forum, but I can still read existing discussions. Looks like someone started a thread about this issue:
Invelos Forums: Server Error in '/' Application.

Re: DVD Profiler?

Yeah, hopefully it's just an update issue for that runtime error, given it's probably only a one or two person operation at this point, could take time to fix.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I see the app is $2.99 to download. I already paid once. They should offer the app through the online account I already have. It's only 3 bucks but it's the principle.

Re: DVD Profiler?

Just updated profiles in the software, seems the only thing I can't do at this point is log into my account at the forums. I can view them, just can't do anything else. I have faith they'll be back up soon.

Also you can't submit updated or new profiles (since that's done through the forums).

Re: DVD Profiler?

The guy that made it hasn't been around for years (AFAIK). There hasn't been a Windows update in years either (2017). There are issues on the iOs app that haven't been fixed (last update 3 years ago). Actually, iPhone looks ok (I forget, maybe the buttons might disappear after one use?) but iPad is missing the sort/search/view buttons, and Collection, Ordered, Wishlist only show in landscape mode, not portrait.

But without the community having the ability to add new profiles this will be an issue moving forward if the guy doesn't fix the site.

I've only created 1 or 2 profiles. IMO just too many rules for submission. I should be able to use IMDB credits. And if someone doesn't like, they can fix and resubmit. But last time I did one it got completely denied. So I stopped.

The community has been updating all the time. I get new and old stuff updated almost daily. Profiles and images.

Not since 6/26, hence TheMovieman's post.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I had an issue a week or two ago where it couldn't connect to the host or something like that. I essentially was unable to add anything because it never could load up the main database. I tried again a few days later and had no issues.

If the site doesn't get fixed, that will be a huge loss for a lot of people.

Agreed. I managed to get a couple added many years ago, but I've just contented myself with creating custom entries (without most of the information) when they don't show up. I never understood why they couldn't set something up to allow you to scrape from IMDB - at least some very basic information.

IIRC, in order to use data, even basic info, you have to purchase a license, which from I remember is really pricey. Honestly, the only way for DVD Profiler to survive is to have a yearly subscription cost. I paid $20 or $30 for the desktop software at least 10 years ago.

I checked earlier and site was completely down. Now it's back up and looks like people are able to post again.

^ Yep, I submitted an update earlier, it allowed to log in and submit it. Didn't stick around long enough to find out what the problem was.

Makes sense. You'd think there would be some other site that could be used.

And like you, I paid for it once many years ago. I've certainly gotten my money out of it.

Are there other options that people are using these days? When the time comes and DVD Profiler goes kaput, I guess all of our links with our collections will be lost, too. That was super convenient to send to friends.
