So, I replaced my local listing with the online one, but I know there are things that are no longer entered in - I just don't know what. *sigh*
And the program did it again. I have hundreds of titles missing. It seems to be getting more buggy - at least for me. I need to get serious about a migration to a different collection platform.

Dammit, it was so useful. Guess I'll have to edit my profile soon.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I'd finally saved the link to my online collection on my tablet and my phone, thought it would be useful, particularly on my phone, went to a flea market today, wasn't sure if I'd purchased a BD (to replace a DVD movie) previously, Invelos was down AGAIN, bought it anyway, luckily I didn't buy it in vain. Sucks that when I finally save a link on my phone, I got 2 uses out of it then nothing. WTF is up with Invelos this time?

Re: DVD Profiler?

Is there an alternative that is the most similar to the DVD Profiler? Something with an online/app component would be nice.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I got an app called My Movies, the Pro version. But I'm not going back and enter my whole collection (no way gonna scan 1500 movies). I'm only doing 4k and the few new blu-rays.

Re: DVD Profiler?

Not sure but seems like it was some server issue that couldn't fixed due to Memorial Day as it's now back.

Re: DVD Profiler?

Down again...
We're performing maintenance on Invelos.com,
but in the mean time if you haven't already,
why not download DVD Profiler?

Bad news? Hard drive failure. Good news?
Current backups, spare hard drive on site.

Restore in progress. Estimated completion: 10:00 PM Eastern

Re: DVD Profiler?

Been in Maintenance since at least yesterday. Currently at 98.7%

It says they're upgrading the server, but idk if I believe that.

Server Maintenance - Invelos.com

Server Maintenance in Progress
Our trusty, dusty (well, recently not so trusty) server has served well for a number of years, but the time has come to upgrade. We're pretty sure servers are not supposed to make that kind of grinding noise.

All data is backed up and intact, and the Disc Team is hard at work on the transfer (image for reference only, actual team is mostly UHD at this point), with our estimated percent complete shown below

Re: DVD Profiler?

It’s the first actual post from them in like 7 years. Makes me a tiny bit optomistic they’ll stick around a bit since otherwise why bother, although not sure why they do. I’m glad as I still use it (although I have it all offline too).

Re: DVD Profiler?

I had a paid account from way back when. I used it for historical data. Since I went 4k, I got the app My Movies Pro to keep track of recently purchased movies, but I'm not going back through my entire collection to rescan them. Maybe just blurays. Hopefully Profiler comes back but, if not, I won't be heartbroken.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I still think something is wrong with the connection through the program. I tried searching movies that have to be in there but got zilch.

Re: DVD Profiler?

I just brought up Profiler, updated my database, updated my online collection, brought up my online collection page in another tab, all with no issues. What exactly are you experiencing?

Re: DVD Profiler?

Sounds like he might be trying to add some new discs he thinks should be in the online database already. I've had that issue with a lot of titles for a while. I end up just adding them manually and submitting.

Re: DVD Profiler?

Exactly. I couldn’t even find the dvd version of a particular movie even though it’s in my collection and I didn’t submit. How exactly do you input manually? Even on preorders…

Yes, I've had movies in the past that I was sure should be in the database but weren't, contributed them myself, then a week or two later got the official update signalling they'd been approved. Makes me wonder sometimes whether or not nobody else had ever really bought that movie, just seemed odd to me, but in the end I just shrugged it off as inconsequential and moved on.

Re: DVD Profiler?

Profiler seems dead now. No new additions, no updates. I have 4,400 entries in that fucking thing. Now what?

Re: DVD Profiler?

Is there a way to export your data? And if so, in a form that can be imported into another tool (CLZ, BR . com, etc)?

Yes, DVD Profiler hasn't been updated in quite a while. I do continue to contribute new and updated profiles to their collection database though, and, somewhat to my surprise, it seems to (mostly) continue to work. Contributions from myself and others are reviewed and do end up in the central database. How long that will continue to work I don't know...

One thing that does not work anymore is getting incremental database updates by selecting "Online --> Refresh Updated Profiles from Invelos" in the desktop software. This seemed to break when they migrated servers some time ago. The only way to get their updated disc database is to redownload the entire thing. I think there are a couple methods to do that, but what I do is select "Online" from the program menu (Windows desktop software) and then select "Refresh Online Profile List" while holding down the Ctrl key. (You have to use the Ctrl key -- just selecting the option by itself tries -- and fails -- to do an incremental update).

After you have refreshed the database this way you still have to select "Online --> Refresh Updated Profiles from Invelos" in order to apply any updates to your collection.

So it has become my routine weekly (sometimes more) do a "Ctrl + Refresh Online Profile List" followed by a "Refresh Updated Profiles from Invelos". Ideal? Definitely not. But like you I have so many profiles in DVD Profiler that I'm not ready to give up on it until it is 100% belly-up.

There is an export option under the desktop software's File menu that lets you export your profiles to an XML file. I've never really looked into whether that XML file is easily importable into any other programs. There is still a user community at the invelos.com forums that tries to answer questions; the program owners/developers seldom (never?) participate anymore though.

Here’s one option that others in the thread have recommended (I haven’t used it myself):
https://www.mymovies.dk/switchfrom/dvd-profiler.aspx

Another option that I decided to go with years ago is simply to not catalog the movies you own. For me, there just wasn’t enough practical value in spending the time.
