Re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18

Watched this movie in a theater a couple of weeks after its release.
I don't know what to think about it.

The original BR is one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time and Denis Villeneuve is one of the more interesting filmmakers around.
But this sequel left me a little bit meh.
Could be I was off my game that day, I don't know.
Will have to watch it again before deciding to purchase the UHD.

They don't have one of the prequels on the digital copy and yet there are two little featurettes on it that aren't on the blu-ray.

The 3D copies at Best Buy have slipcovers, which includes a sticker saying "Best Buy Exclusive". However I've heard it's still showing up at other retailers.

Since there seems to be some discussion of the prologues I thought I would throw this out there: According to what I'm seeing at Amazon for the BD+DVD+DHD, all 3 prologues look like they are included as special features. Can anyone confirm that? Are they on the blu-ray disc?

Special features
- Designing The World of Blade Runner 2049
- To Be Human: Casting Blade Runner 2049
- PROLOGUES: 2022: Black Out
- PROLOGUES: 2036: Nexus Dawn - PROLOGUES: 2048: Nowhere to Run
- Blade Runner 101: Blade Runners
- Blade Runner 101: The Replicant Evolution
- Blade Runner 101: The Rise of Wallace Corp
- Blade Runner 101: Welcome to 2049
- Blade Runner 101: Welcome to 2049
- Blade Runner 101: Within the Skies: Spinners, Pilotfish and Barracudas
Includes UltraViolet so you can enjoy the film on many different compatible devices. MUST ENTER REDEMPTION CODE BY 2019-03-31 TO REDEEM ULTRAVIOLET OFFER. DOES NOT INCLUDE iTUNES FILE.

I'm with you on this one. I actually saw this twice in theaters, and while I liked it enough, I can't imagine this will be something I'll revisit regularly, unlike the original.

The night before I went to see 2049, I watched my brand new 4K copy (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) of the 1st movie in my HT, so the original was fresh in my mind when the lights went out at my local Cineplex.
With hindsight, maybe that wasn't such a great idea after all...

3D version is available for shipping at Best Buy again. The 4K steelbook has been removed from their site, so it doesn't look like that one is coming back.

Oh wow...guess it's a good thing I actually made the effort to go to a BestBuy completely out of the way on this one. That sucker was the most limited supply I've seen for a BestBuy steelbook since the beginning of in-store pickup. Nuts, I tell ya.

That's what I thought of it.- Meh.
I did buy it. But will I ever get to watch it again?
Don't know. It didn't grab me enough for me to want to.
But at sometime in the future? I could try it again.

I received my copy from Deep Discount yesterday. It is indeed the 3D version. There's no mention of Warner Archives on it. There also is no sleeve, which has become normal with Warner Bros and 3D titles. I won't be able to watch any of the content for quite some time but felt some people were curious about what is included. 3D and 2D Blu-ray discs only are included as well as a digital code. No DVD, no extra disc for bonus content. So if Best Buy is touting this as an exclusive, I wonder what's exclusive about it.

It would be funny if the only thing that was exclusive is the slipcover

It also might have just been a last minute thing to make it exclusive to Best Buy. If certain retailers had already placed orders, maybe they at least filled those order requests, and then have it remain as a Best Buy exclusive after that. Or maybe it will end up being a timed exclusive. Since it's still on backorder at Deep Discount, I'll be curious to see if or when they get more stock.

Re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18

The steelbook was most likely removed from the site due to all the cancelled orders and complaints they were getting hit with on their forum.

I got a message from one of the actual Best Buy reps that they had it preordered as well, and that even they had it cancelled. She said keep an eye in store as they might pop back up. (Like most of the others do after a few weeks)

Re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18

There is finally a 3D listing on Amazon. Even though it's only third parties, it might be a better avenue than eBay since Best Buy removed the listing from their site. Lowest seller currently is Deep Discount for $32.90, which isn't bad since Best Buy has it in stores for $29.99.

The Best Buy exclusive is nice though it amazes me why people want to pay a fortune for this because of the artwork and packaging?

I wondered about this question until a few years back when someone pointed out this has more to do with how some people store their disks than anything else.

Those of us who have MANY disks typically optimize storage space by arranging them like books:

Others, who have more storage SPACE than disks, often store theirs like this:

I guess this one was pretty limited as its no longer available on the website. I probably should have bit on it, because its the only artwork I find even bearable, but I guess I'll have to settle for an uglier more affordable version. Or maybe I'll just wait for a 2-movie collector's edition 4K set with Blade Runner and 2049 in it, with the hopes that the artwork will be better.

I’m glad I got the 3D as it’s stunning. This is such a visceral movie...

Collector's mentality? I stopped caring about things like that, but fancy or unique packaging back in the DVD era certainly appealed to me then.

I agree that the movie is visually stunning, but I found the 3D experience lacking. I wish I bought the 4k instead. I'll just wait for a big price drop.

The fancy packaging seemed like more of a novelty for me back in the DVD days. I was lured by many a creative packaging back then as well. The only way I go for the fancy packaging now is if it's the only edition, the same price as the regular edition or has something exclusive I really want.

Yeah, the 4K is fantastic in every way. 3D is for suckers.
