Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18

re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18
What depth -- artificial depth? It wasn't shot with 3-D in mind.
|
re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18
So it might come out next Feb or Mar if the 4 month window applies?

whatever depth. 3D movies on bluray tend to bring that out and I like depth. It might just add a little, but it’s something and as they always say...”something is better than nothing.”

Well some like a step up from the digital version (which you’re content with) and like the physical disc for the best presentation, whether that be the 2D or the 3D. For me: 3D can sometimes work and it sometimes doesn’t. Some movies you should see on bluray or 4K and some, lesser effects driven digital is just fine...

It's a stupid gimmick otherwise. :shrug: |
re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18
Why was it released in 3D then? And before you say "So theaters can charge more", that scheme clearly hasn't been working for them lately as 3D showings have tended to get fewer people overall (I just don't go to any of them and wait for the disc to come out, since the theaters here pretty much suck anyways.) I know DP Roger Deakins has said that he prefers this in 2D, but if he really felt strongly about it then he could've refused to work on the movie or have his name on it if they converted it to 3D. With the 2D IMAX version also having a different aspect ratio though, this is one case where including both that and the 2.35 3D version would be optimal. (IMAX's whole thing of marketing that "taller is better than wider" is pretty retarded also.)
There's definitely a 3D steelbook of this coming out in Europe, and I've at least seen a space for a 3D edition from Warner on one of their 'product pages'. Again since my local theaters suck, that's how I'll end up seeing it. |

Great thread. Why didn't we wait for an announcement/release date?

re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18
Hoping to see it this weekend but I’d buy the Bluray sight unseen regardless.

He got his paycheck -- it's work. He doesn't own the film. He cannot dictate financial terms. It's out of his hands. The studio paid for the shitty post-conversion and it's on them to see if they recoup. This is nothing new. Post conversion 3-D films are garbage. Do it natively or fuck off with that shit. |

I thought the 3D effects were very tasteful and well done!

I don't think they could've put any less thought into that cover art.

re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18
That crappy cover pretty much guarantees that I'm buying the Steelbook 4K version even if I don't yet know what it looks like.

Looks like just another variation of the theatrical poster artwork

And the Digital HD will be released on 12/26, which is what I'm going to get -- hopefully they'll have it disc/digital for $19.99 on VUDU. If they don't then IU will just get the Digital HD version and wait until it drops in price for the hardcopy.

Re: Blade Runner 2049 --> 1/16/18
All of the official poster/key art for BR2049 was disappointing, especially considering how awesome and iconic the poster for the original Blade Runner was...
