Does that surprise you?

And assuming someone takes the time to create an English subtitle file (spoiler: someone will), there are players that allow you to add subtitles to a movie via thumb drive.

And besides, more consumer demand for that type of product might help Toho make the decision to release something similar in other regions.

Since Criterion seems to be gathering up Toho/kaiju movie rights, makes me wonder if they'll do something for it.

No way I would do that, I need the subtitles, but having said that, if the only way to watch this film on Blu/UHD was to import a copy that cost $80 for this film I would probably go for it. I remember getting into Laserdisc not long before DVD started to be a thing, and I have no regrets spending something like $100 for a CÅV Box set of Aliens which I think at the time was the only way to be able to watch all three versions of the film (TV scenes added airing, theatrical, director's cut), or picking up Criterion's Hard Boiled on LD for again, proabably about $100.00, with no regrets, especially for these two titles.

I have to be a bit more picky with what I spend on home video nowadays, but for this film I would pay an arm and a leg to have it in my collection.

You're thinking of the Special Collector's Edition box set, which was the only way to get the Director's Cut at the time. However, that release did not contain the theatrical cut or TV version. The discs were also very prone to laser rot, unfortunately.

Damn you Paramount. I hate the double-dip, but this looks great.

Nice! But why the hell did they skip II?

I still haven't bought the set yet so I will likely pick this up.

I totally splurged on that Search for Spock set. That’s been a personal favorite of mine since I was a kid in the eighties.

Re: UHD release announcements

Japan release

The Imaginary (via Studio Ponoc) | May 15 / English subtitles listed

https://www.waltdisneystudios.jp/studio/others/2331

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0CWVMJ957
https://www.hmv.co.jp/en/news/article/240312500/

Movie will be streaming exclusively later this year on Netflix https://www.netflix.com/title/81565710. Studio Ponoc formed a partnership with Netflix with film and future projects. Most Netflix exclusive anime don't get home video releases. I won't be surprised if this remains streaming only outside of Japan.

Re: UHD release announcements

I just got an email from Zavvi that the 4K release of Seven got pushed to 2025 by Warner Bros.

We have an update on your pre-order of Se7en Ultimate Collector's Edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook – Warner Bros have asked us to update you with the following message:

Thank you for your advanced pre-order for Seven 4K . We are thrilled for you to see it beautifully remastered in UHD. We are working behind the scenes to bring you the most pristine version of the film possible. To that end, we will be shifting the release to 2025. We appreciate your patience and understanding and look forward to sharing the product with you in the near future.

The exact date is not know yet so we will be updating the website with a holding date very soon.

We are assured the product will be worth the wait but we will all unfortunately have to be patient for longer than expected to find out ‘What’s In The Box’
