I'll assume the majority of these artists didn't have to report to the art department, the studio, or wherever the offices are located. They just whipped something up from home and called it a day.

Re: UHD release announcements
The Christmas Vacation cover looks like a terrible homemade family Christmas card, which is perfectly appropriate to the movie. I have no problem with it. I think you all are missing the point that it's supposed to look cheesy.

Re: UHD release announcements
Considering the bluray looked pretty bad and there was only a commentary track and trailers, here's hoping for a good restoration of the film and some extras finally. I mean, seriously, considering it's status as a holiday favourite it has to be one of the most watched films year in and year out during the Christmas season. Give it some some, WB!

I've been working through the Batman '89-97 box set recently. While the first two movies were remastered, both were given hideous teal-and-orange color makeovers. The last two movies don't seem to be remastered at all, and look to be upconverted from old masters with DNR and sharpening problems.

Re: UHD release announcements
Just looked and they released an Anniversary edition with a better transfer. I have the older blu and totally missed the re-release. Yes, from the screen caps, the second release looks better.

Unearthed Films and Vinegar Syndrome are working on at least two UHD releases together: The Guyver (!!!) and A Serbian Film.

I've mentioned this before, but studios (most of them at least) actually think if you use artwork that has been used in a prior release (DVD, Blu-ray, even VHS), customers are too "stupid" to realize that it's an updated version and/or a different format. I know it's crazy, but that's the theory.

Maybe all the bad cover artwork are for mostly Warner Bros releases?

Re: UHD release announcements
Vinegar Syndrome has the original Amityville Horror up for preorder.

George Lutz, his wife Kathy, and their three children have just moved into a beautiful, and improbably cheap, Victorian mansion nestled in the sleepy coastal town of Amityville, Long Island. However, their dream home is concealing a horrific past and soon each member of the Lutz family is plagued with increasingly strange and violent visions and impulses. Fearing for their sanity, they consult with Father Delaney who realizes a dark supernatural presence has consumed the home and is attempting to propel the Lutz family into becoming its latest victims of unspeakable acts of violence...
One of the most acclaimed and terrifying horror films of the 1970s, director Stuart Rosenberg's (Cool Hand Luke) The Amityville Horror (TM) features powerhouse performances from James Brolin (Westworld), genre film icon Margot Kidder (Superman, Black Christmas), Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night), and cult star Don Stroud (Django Unchained). With a chilling screenplay by Sandor Stern, based on Jay Anson's best selling novel, and an unnerving score by Lalo Schifrin (Mission: Impossible), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the UHD debut of The Amityville Horror, stunningly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative and featuring a comprehensive selection of new and archival interviews.

Re: UHD release announcements
I couldn't care less about the cover artwork, or the extras of these UHD releases.
What matters 100% is that the transfers be exceptional, high-bitrate outstanding encodes from the films' OCN. Further, that they not be tweaked, with "modernized" tealish color-timing or darkening or other modifications which would otherwise wind up ruining the films, obviating the higher resolution which 4k provides. I've seen this happen so many times that I'm rather cynical of almost every catalogue-title UHD release now. I never, ever buy preorders without waiting to read at least one unbiased review and / or forum members' comments at that OTHER forum, which is known for its pedantry. If the news is good on THAT forum, then I'll buy with confidence
The only exception to this rule would be from that great company Vinegar Syndrome. They get it right 95% of the time, and are reliable.

$271 for that Australian Saw 4K set. I don’t love the series enough to spend that kind of money even if it is limited.

As rare as it is to see TV series hit the format — and even rarer for studios other than Warner — Bullmoose just added a listing for the first season of Halo.
