Re: THE HATEFUL EIGHT: Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD -3/29/16
No dice on the steelbook at the Best Buy in West Hollywood yesterday during lunch (about 3PM). I would've picked it up, but no Roadshow cut makes this a very low-priority buy so I'm not sweating it. If a steelbook turns up, I'll grab it, otherwise I can wait it out til the eventual "ultimate" edition, blah blah. Or I'll just go see it next time it's at New Beverly. I do love being so close to Tarantino's personal theater. ((BTW saw Grindhouse there with the extended cuts of both movies last week. They told us we were the first audience to see it that way. 35mm, of course. Was a blast.))
Best Buy seems so spotty with these releases, making them so limited that they're gone by the middle of the release day. Makes me wonder if I should even bother trying to get a Star Wars steelbook. People with no jobs will no doubt have Best Buy totally ransacked by the time I get to take my lunch break.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but (Since Morricone's overture plays in it's entirety) the blu-ray menu is basically an animated version of the overture. So at least that's close enough to make up for (Some of) what's missing in the roadshow version.

I wonder why this Best Buy steelbook was so limited where you could never do a preorder online while the Deadpool and Force Awakens steelbooks are both available for online pre-orders?

No Roadshow. No Sale for me. I don't think there's a Roadshow version available anywhere right now. There was a really nice French version...but they (the studio making the edition) finally admitted it was not the Roadshow version.

They don't want to cut into sales so I think they'll be a Roadshow announcement in the future.

I got my $5 back yesterday, so I feel much better about the $20 spent now.
Target also has a 25% off cartwheel for it this week. It should work on their exclusive as well, bringing it down to $18.75.

The Best Buy Steelbook is on sale for $19.99 but not available anywhere unless you want to pay $200 at Ebay

Re: THE HATEFUL EIGHT: Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD -3/29/16
Why does Best Buy even bother with these steelbooks if they're only to produce a handful of them?
It just seems so counterintuitive to produce a store exclusive in quantities that are well below demand, and then alienate potential customers and generate ill-well against your company when you turn them away empty-handed.
(I don't have a cock in this fight since I don't like steelbooks, and will generally avoid them when I can. I think I own three blu-ray steelbooks and four DVD steelbooks, and most of those were only available as steelbooks when I bought them.)

Anyway, I agree it's stupid to provide such a paltry number of Steelbooks. But every single time I'm amazed that people who desperately want the Best Buy Steelbook exclusives don't buy it ahead of time online for in-store pick up. That's what I always do and it's ALWAYS there (okay, not with the in-store preorders for Mad Max that got all fucked up. But always with the online preorders).
There have been some crazy-difficult ones to track down at Target (most notably the Big Hero 6 one), but at Best Buy, online ordering with in-store pick up basically forces the employees to grab your copy before the store opens to the public.

Re: THE HATEFUL EIGHT: Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD -3/29/16
It seems that when Target has exclusive steelbooks, they tend to have (while not a lot), much more per store than when BB has an exclusive steelbook. Like, recent examples, Target had about 15 copies of the Creed steelbook, then BB had only 5 copies of the H8 steel. I wonder why.

That Star Wars steelbook is bound to go on sale and I should be able to collect. They have way too many of them and are charging too high of a premium. Should be a couple of weeks and be able to get some money back as they try to clear stock.

I found them both eventually, but the last two times they released one, there wasn't a single copy available at store opening on Tuesday. And as I mentioned, the Big Hero 6 was even harder to get.

I think Mad Max Fury Road and Guardians of the Galaxy are the only two I'm glad I pre-ordered, because I never actually saw them on shelves.

Re: THE HATEFUL EIGHT: Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD -3/29/16
I never received any sort of email notification about a payment problem whatsoever, but when I went to pick up the disc last night, the guy at the pickup desk told me that they never set aside a copy for me because my order was incomplete. Fortunately, the store was well stocked with dozens of copies of this SteelBook so I just grabbed one off the shelf. However, if this had happened for Hateful Eight, they would have sold all their copies and I would have been screwed. (I'm screwed anyway because I didn't actually preorder Hateful Eight, but you get what I'm saying.)

The French set is fucking great - they threw in everything but the Roadshow but if you're a collector - this will probably run you almost $100 shipped:
