Man, that's a tough choice. Steelbook or exclusive features and lenticular case.

Missed this in theaters so I'll pick it up for sure. Think I'll go for the Steelbook.

Will probably grab the Steelbook.

fuck man this is starting to piss me off. Exclusives like this only serve to put collectors like me off physical media. They did this with Terminator Genisys. Every disc of a new film released on physical media should have exactly the same content. I like collecting steelbooks and prefer them over a standard case when there is the option, but I'm not about to buy something with significantly less content just for the case. I'll probably grudgingly buy the Target release, but if this continues it could be bad news for my collecting habits.

I don't really mind store exclusive packaging like steelbooks or special covers, or including a toy or figurine as a store exclusive, but what really grates on me is the trend of splitting up "special edition" content among various retailers.

So instead of getting a Special Edition of a film, Target gets one documentary, Walmart gets a different documentary, and Best Buy gets a third documentary.

My habits changed when they pulled the exclusive shit with Django Unchained. 3 extras discs split between Best Buy/Target/Wal-Mart. Screw that. I no longer care when it comes to extras NOT contained with the release. So now I'm more prone to pick up steelbooks rather than for extras content. What's worse is that most of the extras discs are usually DVD. Automatic pass for me.

I'm not a fan of this practice either. But it's been done for as long as I have been buying DVD's. I must have hundreds of DVD "bonus discs" collected over all those years, many of them from Circuit City (that's how long ago it was).

What I don't get is not putting the extended cut on there unless there is going to be double dip at some point.

Yeah, this is terrible. What kind of incentive is this supposed bonus feature, if you have to give up other features to get it? What an horrible practice that makes me feel lucky I don't happen to be interested in steelbooks.

I imagine we'll get the extended cut sometime after "The Whole Bloody Affair" version of Kill Bill.

So, we're NEVER getting it then.

Tarantino has indicated that he doesn't intend to release the roadshow version on home video. We'll see if he sticks to his guns on that.

Considering how this performed at the box office, I wouldn't hold your breath for another release.

Precisely.

Also this. I'd love to be able to see that version, but I don't ever truly expect it to happen. I could see them doing another road show of the 70mm print in a few years. I mean... there's ~50 or so prints, right? I doubt they'll keep them all in a bunker.

I'm sure he'll just continue screening the 35mm roadshow version at the new beverly for the time being. It'll be making money that way - along with concessions and those specially designed collector's cups of the H8.

Actually, that's exactly why they'd put out another release. Easy cash grab.

Still not sure if I'm going to buy this edition. I really want the Roadshow cut, but I suppose this is likely good enough. Just sucks the features are so weak.

You guys recognize that these "documentaries" are all puff-piece EPK featurettes that aren't worth watching anyway, right?

Some are, but I'd still like to have them there.

The ones of "Game of Thrones" are pretty decent.

They don't say if these exclusive content are on disc or not, which makes me think they're just codes for watching online, like a lot of them have been lately.

The Games of Thrones pieces are substantial and excellent. Which makes it even more frustrating when they are split out.

Certainly other exclusives have been pretty lame, and very EPK like, but I've picked up most of the GoT bonus discs and haven't regretted one yet.

Certainly could have changed, but every GoT bonus for previous seasons has been on a separate BD disc. Often it one of those very slim cases, shrink wrapped to the outer normal box.

That's a TV show. For movies, like recently with Spectre and Good Dinosaur, the Traget exclusive content has been online-only.

And usually when it is a bonus disc, the sticker says "DISC" - when it just says "content", it's usually online.
