Re: American Sniper - 5/19/15

Target has this for $12.49 this week. My store had a lone copy of the steelbook sitting up front with the rest of the copies with the new price tag, so they didn't have an issue adjusting the price.

If it includes a featurette on the plastic baby, I'm in. Other than that, I'll pass on this one. I fact, I never bought the first release.

All "based on actual events" movies have at least a minimal amount of artistic license to make it a movie the public wants to see. Although I'm not a glutton for extras, this is one area where I love any extra telling the "true", true story and how if differed from the movie. Bank Job, Catch Me If You Can, Band Of Brothers, Rudy and Apollo 13 come to mind with featurettes or commentaries giving insight. I do have the initial release so I wouldn't bother to upgrade just for that but often the documentaries end up on youtube or another video service.

It takes HUGE as fuck liberties w/ the man in certain situations. I thought to myself, "Jesus Fuck me in the ashole. He did this shit?" And then I investigated a bit more and a lot of it bullshit. Which is kind of awkward when you see his real funeral and etc at the end. Like... really, Eastwood?

Apparently the first 500 copies sold from Walmart will be autographed by Jesus.

I don't know why this movie got so much hate for the artistic license it took when all the other "based on actual events" movies do the same. It was based on the guys book. When writing memoirs people tend to make their story more exciting. That's how to sell books. When making a movie, things are added, people are composites in order to have a story told in 2 hours. From ARGO to Band of Brothers there are numerous movies with ample liberties. This one just seemed to generate more hate.
