American Sniper - 5/19/15
Looks like this is coming out next month. A couple store exclusives:
Target is getting the steelbook version

Best Buy is getting some exclusive content

Nothing mentioned for Wal Mart yet, but I'm sure they will have something as well. I missed this in theaters, so I'll definitely be checking it out.

to tell the truth...it was a good movie, but really not sure i need to own this one. probably will change with some decent extras, but don't feel that urgent desire to see it again...

It was entertaining but really shallow, and most of the material has been covered better elsewhere. So I get where you're coming from. It's alright though, I'm sure it'll sell fine.

I was going to say the same thing, and then felt like a pretentious douche but dammit it's true.

Yeesh. I don't think I will ever see the film unless I get it for review.

Glad the artwork sucks so I won't be tempted to buy it

I figured they'd go with the one on the DVD Cover (it fits with the whole "candid picture" campaign that seems to be taking over for Blu-ray covers), but I dunno, it's a scaling of the actual poster and looks funny.

I've been seeing that poster a lot, it has become fairly iconic, so I'm kind of surprised that they didn't use it as the cover. Hey, if this moves Blu-ray units, I must admit, that'll be alright by me. Anything that helps the flagging sales. I've seldom gone to the cinema since something inside of me died, so I missed this, but I'll at least Redbox it.

Strange dvdactive.com has the US flag in the artwork but they claimed they borrowed the artwork from Amazon.
I think the flag in the background is the Blu-ray cover for the standard release and the artwork with Cooper looking face down is just for the Best Buy exclusive.

It looks like the Best Buy exclusive is not that hard to get and you can buy it online or do a store pickup.

I think they got a little greedy with this release, because all of the major retailers are selling it for $25. I would have picked up the Steelbook for $20, but now I'm just going to rent it at the library.

WB bumped the list price on their latest releases to $44.99. Unfortunately, I think we'll be seeing more release week pricing of $25 on their titles.

Honestly this movie doesn't have much or any replay value at all. It's an interesting story and Cooper gave a good performance, but I don't feel compelled to watch it again at all.
For those who haven't seen this yet and are tempted to blind buy it, I say don't waste your money and rent it 1st.

I figured that out a long time ago and adjusted my buying habits accordingly. My home video library started filling up with all of these DVDs of "good," "critically acclaimed," and "quality" movies that I never want to fucking see again.
I have absolutely zero interest in watching American Sniper because I don't like movies based on "true stories" that take place after 1970 or so. Not really sure why, though.
