I just saw Stone Cold for the first time recently and it's a blast. The previous bluray has been long out of print so this welcome news.

I’m not sure why they are touting Secret Admirer with a new transfer. Watching now and it looks like crap. Too bad. Still fucking love this movie.

Is Action Jackson being newly released?

No I think that comment is referencing Action Jackson as a movie also directed by Craig Baxley.

I still have the Stone Cold Olive release brand new and still sealed. Welp. At least the Kino version will be a fully loaded affair.

I’ve never seen this movie. But I heard it’s terrible. All I know is that it’s the movie that Travolta and Kelly Preston hooked up.

I rented this back not long after it first came out on VHS, mostly because the idea seemed unique and the Struzan poster art gave it the feel of a 'big' theatrical release, which is maybe what Paramount intended when they made it, but the fact that it barely played theatres and then barely made an impression on home video was telling. The premise felt high-concept enough (which is probably where Paramount execs got fooled), but didn't hold up to the slightest scrutiny, and the execution was so flat. You could't shake the feeling that the 'Russia' the film takes place in was actually Canada, either. Decades later I saw the older James Garner movie 36 HOURS, which was a somewhat more believable way to pull off this kind of switcheroo scheme. I've always wondered what prompted them to hand so much money to Dave Thomas to direct it. I mean, STRANGE BREW is a fun movie, and a classic among Canucks, but I wouldn't say it's exceedingly well directed. I'd be curious to see his interview, but no way can I justify a purchase just for that.

Siskel & Ebert's take, back in the day, in which Ebert correctly points out the egregious Idiot Plot. Stars around 12m30s, after they slag UHF (!) and split on SHAG and VALENTINO RETURNS:

I’ve been reading that the UHD of Bug is getting canceled thanks to Friedkin dragging his feet on To Live And Die In L.A. which may or may not be getting axed too.
Really unfortunate. I was planning on picking both of those up.

Stone Cold is going to be my first Kino Lorber purchase but I'm only seeing it available on their website. Will it be available online elsewhere?

Didn’t realize Burt Reynolds’s Heat was a Cannon movie.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber Blu-ray Thread

I might get Heat for the alternate ending but that movie was really scatter brained; if it chose maybe 1 or 2 of the four/five plots it would have been fine but it’s all over the place in tone.

interesting that the trailer shows Cannon, it was theatrically released by new century instead, I’m assuming Cannon did some sort of trade with them.

I really wish that the original version of Stick sees the light of day; Annie Potts was in the original version and it played closer to the book, which was a cool little con game story by Elmore Leonard.

Thought this bit from the Wiki entry was amusing:

In 2000, William Goldman published his second volume of memoirs, Which Lie Did I Tell?: More Adventures in the Screen Trade. He mentioned Heat briefly, saying "the reason you will not learn more about this baby in these pages is simple: to my knowledge, lawsuits are still flying."[4] He added that it was "One of my major disasters...", with a record six directors, who "... toiled on what was only a thirty-six-day shoot."[5] In 2014, he reflected, "We had troubles, what can I tell you?"[6]
I was never a big fan of Reynold's movies from this period (this STICK, MALONE). They have their moments, I guess. And worse was yet to come, so there's that.

Goldman's script for Heat was eventually remade as the 2015 Jason Statham vehicle Wild Card.

When Burt Reynolds died a few years ago it occurred to me that other than Boogie Nights I had never seen a single Burt Reynolds movie. Since then I've seen Deliverance, but that's it. Just a weird blindspot for me. To me he'll always be the guy from Win, Lose or Draw.

Not even Smokey and the Bandit, or The Cannonball Run? I'm sure it's an age difference, but when I was a kid, those two were both on cable so much it almost wasn't possible to grow up without watching them.

Age difference for sure, but for comparisons sake I've seen pretty much every single movie Clint Eastwood ever starred in. He's the most direct peer of Reynolds I can think of. Of course one of the very few Eastwood movies I've never seen is City Heat. It's just one of those weird coincidences.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber Blu-ray Thread

The only Reynolds titles among that batch that I am moderately interested in are Heat and The Longest Yard (4K) The rest meh. They are probably at best one-time only watches.

Now someone needs to release a newly remastered BD on Cannonball Run 1 and 2. However, I believe 2 is a WB title and Kino doesn't do business with them.
