For those with DC Universe and have a 4K TV, the following titles are streaming in 4K, including the new Justice League vs the Fatal Five.

Batman Ninja

Batman: Gotham By Gaslight

The Death of Superman

Reign of the Supermen

Justice League vs The Fatal Five

Batman: Assault on Arkham

How is the 4k? I thought general consensus on the discs was that it wasn't really worth the extra cost, but I'm wondering if it's still a significant upgrade (not that I have a 4k TV, I'm mainly curious)

Well played, Target. You get to keep my 7 bucks.
Target employees are the worst at checking stock in the backroom. They've almost never found stock the computer says is at the store when I've asked.

All the DC movies have been animated at 1080P but here's the rub. The 4K UHDs have far fewer compression issues by comparison due to the improved HEVC encodes. As anyone that has watched these BDs on a reference display knows, they are replete with banding thanks to Warner's could-care-less AVC encodes.

My local Target had two copies of the Justice League vs. The Fatal Five Steelbooks left so I wound up grabbing it tonight.

My Target had one copy left so I bought it, walked out, walked back in and returned it as my $22.99 online purchase. Thanks for the heads up.

Target can be kind of weird with their media prices at times. If they don’t have a sale on a title release week it seems like often they’ll put it on sale like a week or two later.

New DC SHOWCASE Animated Shorts to Feature SGT. ROCK, ADAM STRANGE, DEATH, More

By Newsarama Staff May 7, 2019 10:03am ET
Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, and DC are currently in production on five new DC Showcase animated shorts for release in 2019-2020.The new series of shorts will be included on upcoming DC Universe movies releases, with exception of what they are calling an "innovative Batman: Death in the Family long-form animated short," which will anchor a compilation set for distribution in late 2020.Each of the five shorts – Sgt. Rock, Adam Strange, Death, The Phantom Stranger and Batman: Death in the Family – opens with a new, live-action branding sequence that features a "few Easter Eggs specially added for observant fans."Sgt. Rock is executive produced and directed by Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) from a script by veteran comic book writers Louise Simonson & Walter Simonson and Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen)."The original tale finds battle-weary Sgt. Rock thinking he has seen everything that World War II can dish out. But he is in for the surprise of his life when he is assigned to lead a company consisting of legendary monsters into battle against an unstoppable platoon of Nazi zombies."Karl Urban (Star Trek, Lord of the Rings) voices Sgt. Rock. Adam Strange is produced and directed by Butch Lukic (Batman Unlimited), who also conceived the original story – which is written by comics vet J.M. DeMatteis (Constantine: City of Demons)."On a rugged asteroid mining colony, few of the toiling workers are awarethat their town drunk was ever anything but an interplanetary derelict. But when the miners open afissure into the home of a horde of deadly alien insects, his true identity is exposed. He is spaceadventurer Adam Strange, whose heroic backstory is played out in flashbacks as he struggles to save the very people who have scorned him for so long."Charlie Weber (How To Get Away with Murder) voices Adam Strange.Inspired by Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman,” Death is produced & directed by Sam Liu (Justice League vs. The Fatal Five) and written by DeMatteis."In the story, Vincent, an artist with unresolved inner demons, meets a mysterious girl who helps him come to terms with his creative legacy … and eventual death."Leonardo Nam (Westworld) voices Vincent, and Jamie Chung (The Gifted, Big Hero 6) voices Death. The Phantom Stranger is executive produced and directed by Timm and is written by Ernie Altbacker (Teen Titans: The Judas Contract)."Set in the 1970s, the short follows young adult Jess as she joins her friends at a party in a dilapidated mansion hosted by the mysterious Seth. When odd things begin to happen to Jess and her friends, the Phantom Stranger intervenes to save her from a dreary fate."Peter Serafinowicz (The Tick) voices The Phantom Stranger and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) voices Seth. More information regarding Batman: Death In The Family will be available in 2020, per the announcement. All five new DC Showcase shorts credits include Jim Krieg as co-producer, Amy McKenna as producer, and Sam Register as executive producer.Initially launched in 2010, DC Showcase was originally comprised of four animated shorts produced by Timm and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos: The Spectre (released on 2/23/2010), Jonah Hex (7/27/2010), Green Arrow (9/28/2010) and Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam (11/9/2010) and was later followed by Catwoman (10/18/2011), directed by Lauren Montgomery and executive produced by Timm. Voice actors featured on the first five shorts included Malcolm McDowell, James Garner (in his final performance), Jerry O’Connell, Linda Hamilton, Gary Cole, Alyssa Milano, Thomas Jane, Michael Rooker, Eliza Dushku, Neal McDonough, Ariel Winter, Danica McKeller, George Newbern, Michelle Trachtenberg and Arnold Vosloo.

Damn...would love to see some Sgt. Rock!

But I bet the voice won't ever be as cool as what he has sounded like in my head since I was a kid.

It has to be done like The Spectre short in Jim Aparo's style.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Trailer for Batman: Hush dropped earlier today. Looks pretty good, although I have to say the animation is nowhere near as cool as Jim Lee's artwork. I also feel like this should be a two parter personally. There's a lot of story to cover over one 75 minute film.

Batman vs TMNT is really good. I’m not even a fan of the TMNT, but they were very likable in this iteration. IMHO, this is definitely one of the better animated DCU films.

I rented Justice League vs The Fatal Five from our library and it didn't really click for me, so I ended up returning my steelbook copy. I finally broke the chain! I'm free from getting every steelbook now just to continue the collection!

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I stopped blind buying these DC animated movies. I got that big box set that was on sale from Amazon last year that covered most of the movies going into 2017 (sold all the individual ones I owned prior) and now that I have DC Universe, there's honestly no need for me to get anymore.

A lot of them are only average at best and don't have any replay value.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

The films as a whole were a lot better earlier on if you ask me. I feel like the quality has been very up and down the past few years or so. I tend to like the ones that focus on the individual characters more than the team up ones. None of the Justice League ones have been my favorites really. I guess though both Suicide Squad ones were pretty good.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

They've already adapted most of the mainstream DC stories that can fit into one movie. They are mostly limited to concepts featuring Batman and/or Superman, since the other heroes just don't sell that well. I thought sticking to the New 52 continuity for the movies was a mistake after the comics abandoned them, but I imagine they realize ten times more people know New 52's continuity from the animated movies than actually read DC comics.

But we've also gotten several great movies in the past couple of years. Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay is nearly perfect.

Agreed. I just watched it last night and it was pretty cool. It also bordered on rated R, with some of the brutal hits and kills. For those that have it via Digital HD - there's an after credit scene.

Yeah these have all been hit or miss. Mostly miss. None has stayed with me except Wonder Woman, which is only rewatchable and movie I love.

Is the TMNT one coming to DC Universe? I know every other one has but I figured there may be rights issues.

Not in the U.S., as far as I can tell. Zavvi is issuing one in the UK.
