Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Yep. One of their first ones over a decade ago. With all of the different things they can cover, it's kinda odd to go back to that one already.

It was actually the first one. I think the main reason for revisiting it is that it wasn’t very great but I agree it’s odd to go back to it.

I thought Doomsday was quite good. I asked because I wasn't sure if this new movie covered the same territory. Yes, it's quite odd for them to double sip given the countless options they have as source material from DC's history.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I think from what I remember Bruce Timm or someone else involved wasn’t happy with how it turned out and thought it should have been done better. It’s one of those stories that would benefit from a single film with a longer run time or being split into two parts (like The Dark Knight Returns). Frankly while it’s one of the most famous Superman stories it’s not one I’ve ever been a big fan of but whatever.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Doomsday was pretty bad. I was wishing they wouldn't try and ram characters like Batman and WW into this, given that they were not a part of the original story. Can't say I'm not surprised they included them.

I mean, it wasn't that great of a story, it's basically mysterious menace comes down from space and beats everyone to a pulp and Superman battles him to a standstill. The aftermath (while still not a stellar story) was where the best part is.

I think it makes sense to include WW and Batman, not only for the popularity, but also because if you want to recreate the comic you have to needlessly explain why the Justice League is basically Superman and the c-team.

Appears that's the plan. From the DC Animated Wiki:

In late 2018, the first part of an adaptation of The Death of Superman storyline will be released. The second part, titled Reign of the Supermen will be released in early 2019. The storyline was previously adapted in highly-condensed and altered form in Superman: Doomsday.[89] Jerry O'Connell, Rosario Dawson, Nathan Fillion, Christopher Gorham, Matt Lanter, Shemar Moore, Jason O'Mara and Rocky Carroll will be reprising their roles as Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Batman, Silas Stone, Rebecca Romijn will voice Lois Lane, Rainn Wilson as Lex Luthor and Patrick Fabian as Hank Henshaw.[91]

Teen Titans Go! trailer. I don't know if this was posted already and the shitty search function just directs me to this thread.

Watched Batman and Harley Quinn back to back with Batman vs. Two-Face. The first one was pretty decent, but I didn't realize the second was patterned after the '60s series, and while I like that series and Adam West, I wasn't really in the mood for it.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I saw Return of the Caped Crusaders but not Batman Vs. Two-Face. Sadly I was somewhat disappointed despite being a big fan of the 66 series. It was alright but too cartoony (there’s a difference between the campiness of the show and that animated film in my opinion).

Now they get to explain why the entire "A team" JL fails against Doomsday, which is stupid.

I expect them to, eventually, announce Knightfall as a two part movie as well. I kinda wish they were doing that one first.

Eh, Doomsday is as powerful as they want to make him, it makes it seem that much more plausible that he can kill Superman if he can make it through the rest of the JL (especially since they've seemingly severely nerfed Martian Manhunter in almost every medium).

It's the main problem with including Superman in the Justice League in the first place, what do they tackle that he couldn't tackle alone. Even in the JL movie, Steppenwolf was basically done once he came onto the scene.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

The Death of Superman story was rather weak but the one thing I liked about it was how hopeless things were that Superman had to die to stop Doomsday, as he didn't have the original JL members to help him. They should have done this as another legacy release and not part of the New 52 continuation.

I do look forward to the second part more than the first, though I have a feeling that will be split between Funeral for a Friend and Reign of Superman.

Everyone should probably be prepared for a deluxe version with both movies similar to the re-release of TDKReturns.

A little of both.

‘Search” appears about 5 times on every page, but the only search worth a damn is advanced search by title. It’s in my sig under forum helps. Or click the arrow under the ‘search’ towards the right of the menu bar, then click advanced.

Thanks, Trevor. I'll try it next time.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Yeah, the search feature here sucks. You basically have to use really specific keywords to find anything and even then I usually wind up sifting through a couple pages or so before finding the relevant thread.

I just use Google. I put the main words in there with DVDTalk after it. That's the only way I can use the search.
