re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?
I knew the Simpsons sets sold well (for a TV show), and I also know that Fox is run by monkeys. Idiot monkeys.

Actually, I'm surprised those are considered "good" numbers. I would have thought the DVD sales at least would need to crack 100,000 to be considered a success.

And I mentioned it earlier, but I was in Big Lots not too long ago and they had tons of Simpsons seasons sets marked down. They may be selling to the retailers, but the actual sell-through must not be that good and that's what the studio could be looking at.

Those sales are just for season seventeen. The others have been out for a while and eventually get discounted like most other titles. I don't have a hard time believing those numbers as I'm sure there are still the diehard fans and some casuals who pick up the sets. As far as how good the sales are relatively speaking the article points out that the sales are good for today's market.

Those sales are great. Those are higher numbers than almost all of the television sets put out by WB. It is possible the sets are less profitable than expected due to all the people that have Simpsons' royalties.

Rumor has it that the "Little House on the Prairie" season 7 bluray might possibly be cancelled.

The amazon preorder link has just disappeared.

Quote: It appears Warner/HBO is largely abandoning the bluray/dvd/digital copy combo pack format for their tv on bluray releases. The only announced upcoming title left that is still using this bluray/dvd/digital combo pack format, is season 8 of The Big Bang Theory.
It appears Warner has given up entirely on the dvd-copy for their tv shows on bluray, including season 8 of The Big Bang Theory.

In the end, not really surprising at all.

Boo! Just realized that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is DVD-only. I totally would've bought that on Blu-ray.

They changed their minds, and seasons 7-9 will be available on Blu-ray.

Looks like both Scream: The Series (MTV/Anchor Bay) and Scream Queens (Fox) have been announced for home video on DVD only.

This is disheartening, as both are genre programs and should do well on blu-ray.

I can't say I'm interested in owning either of these on DVD, though I probably would pick up the blu-rays.

Fox has largely abandoned television on Blu-ray and Scream is a cable series aimed at teenagers that gets micro-ratings.

About the only safe bets these days are premium cable shows, genre network fare, and shows that air on Syfy. Everything else is a longshot, though I was pleasantly surprised Mr. Robot made it to Blu-ray.

The first season of Daredevil is available for digital purchase through services like iTunes, but just over a year after it premiered, there's no physical release at all anywhere worldwide.

Well to date, hasn't it only been House of Cards and Orange is the New Black been the only Netflix shows to get a physical release? I thought those were selling fairly well?

Hemlock Grove and Lilyhammer had a season 1 release, both Blu-ray and DVD. The Killing: Season 4 and Arrested Development: Season 4 had DVD releases. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Season 1 and Grace And Frankie Season 1 were recently released on DVD.

Netflix may have an "exclusivity period" for their shows, but ultimately a DVD/Blu-ray release is going to be up to the production company.

I totally bought OITB season 2 on BD... for $5 on Black Friday. I think I bought season 1 on BF as well.

I would think a superhero show like DD would be a no-brainer for a physical release. Much more so than comedies or dramas.

I think that Marco Polo is Netflix, and that got a Blu-ray release too.

DD is from Disney.

Marco Polo and House of Cards, etc., were distributed through Anchor Bay, I believe.

Daredevil would be in Disney's court, and given their total apathy towards the second season of Agents of SHIELD and the first season of Agent Carter, I wouldn't surprised if it stayed digital-only in the U.S. The lack of a physical release in Europe surprises me, though.

House of Cards is Sony, Orange Is the New Black is Lionsgate, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is Universal, The Killing and Arrested Development are Fox, Hemlock Grove is handled by Shout Factory, Lilyhammer is fielded by New Video, and, yeah, Marco Polo is being distributed by Anchor Bay.

It appears to me Netflix won't release Daredevil Seasons 1 & 2 including Jessica Jones onto Blu-ray. So made my own custom Blus for each Season across multiple discs. Most difficult was to add chapter stops. So many BD50s, but very worth it all.
Did the same for 11.22.63 and some other HD broadcasts of older shows. All that customisation. Forgot if Mission: Impossible has been broadcast in 1080i/p or not.
Unless if you're importing and AU has Quantum Leap Season 1 & 2 available.

That'd be in Disney's court, not Netflix's, even though that's where it premiered.

(In that sense, it's no different than Gotham airing on Fox but being released on home video by Warner Bros., since Warner produces the show, just like Disney produces Daredevil.)

Disney has no interest in television on Blu-ray. Consider it a bonus they allow Agents of SHIELD to hit Blu-ray.

They disregard fan demand for these Netflix shows on Blu-ray. Quite puizzling.

But Disney is and has been releasing STAR WARS: Rebels on Blu-ray. They of course won't for TRON: Uprising. They ought to release Blu-rays for TV shows through their Disney Movie Club. WAC is and also been releasing random TV shows on Blu-ray disc their way. All pressed to impress.

This isn't surprising anymore. Scorpion season 2 possibly dvd-only.

There's been no mention we've found for a Blu-ray version, but the word in the industry is that the BD version for the first season of this show didn't sell very well; most fans apparently elected to buy it on standard DVD.

...

For that matter, Limitless season 1 is also dvd-only. Though in this case, there's probably no point in releasing a 1-season wonder on bluray unless there's a huge cult following (ie. Firefly, etc ...).

CBS ditched blu releases a long time ago, right around the time Hawaii Five-O season 4 came out. So that was about 3 years ago I would think.

They released the 12th season of NCIS on Blu-Ray a year ago for some odd reason, but now ditched it for the 13th season.

They've made an attempt to release some of their current crop of shows on BD and for some reason no one buys them. I can't fault them for sticking to just DVD, which obviously sells better for them even though it's standard definition.

CBS has released some of their shows like The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-O, Blue Bloods and NCIS on, Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime and I think that has contributed to them just sticking to only DVD for media.
