No, it doesn't need to be in spoilers. True Detective is an anthology series, like American Horror Story. Each season will have new characters, a new storyline, and a new cast. Seasons will be related to each other only by theme, not by plot.

Another dumb question I thought I would toss out there. Anyone know if this will find it's way to Amazon Prime now that they have that HBO deal in place? I know Game of Thrones was cut out of the deal, but don't remember anything about True Detective.

The deal didn't include anything from the last three years. So it might be added three years from now Hard to say at this point.

It looks like each Target store only got a couple of the Mondo steelbooks. So if you want one, you might want to grab it soon. There is also a 10% off cartwheel good for this week.
