No, it doesn't need to be in spoilers. True Detective is an anthology series, like American Horror Story. Each season will have new characters, a new storyline, and a new cast. Seasons will be related to each other only by theme, not by plot.

Another dumb question I thought I would toss out there. Anyone know if this will find it's way to Amazon Prime now that they have that HBO deal in place? I know Game of Thrones was cut out of the deal, but don't remember anything about True Detective.

For current programming there's a 3-year window after they air.

The deal didn't include anything from the last three years. So it might be added three years from now Hard to say at this point.
