I guess that's the Gravtiy: Silent Space Version that's mentioned in the original press release? If this is $16.99 or less, I'll pick it up.

I picked up the 3D version last week at Target for $16.99 (price matched Amazon), but the 2D version for $4 at Target during BF sounds a whole lot better.

I might pick that up down the road. Would make for a neat experience.

Yeah, I'll be picking that up for sure. Just need an Atmos-equipped receiver...

I'm still a little confused by the whole Dolby Atmos thing. So if I don't have a Dolby Atmos receiver, will this movie just play back in 7.1 PCM? Or could it just default to something like 5.1 DTS-HD?

^I'm guessing it has a separate non-Atmos lossless track like the original disc, or maybe the Atmos track has a Dolby TrueHD core. I doubt PCM or DTS-HD could be output on the fly from the Atmos version (with a standard Blu-ray player), so maybe a separate DTS-HD track will be on there.

Atmos is encoded on disc as a metadata extension to a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 core. If you don't have an Atmos receiver, the Atmos "objects" will be folded down into the core and the whole thing will be output as TrueHD 7.1.

What if you don't have 7.1 - just 5.1?

It'll revert to something that is within general use, man. Ya ain't going to go full on silent.

It defaults to a Dolby True HD 7.1 mix if you don't have an Atmos equipped receiver.

EDIT: Josh Z beat me to it.

Fyi...not sure if others received the same email from Google, but mine contained a code and link to redeem Gravity in HD for free (to own, not rent....$16.99 value).

Re: Gravity (2D/3D - 2-25) no 7.1 surround sound mix!!

I don't really care about the "silent" version. I already have the score on vinyl. I don't plan on getting an Atmos system. What this will do is lower the current one out there to under $10 and I'll buy that one. The lowest price I've seen the regular version has been for $12.99 on Amazon. If I can get it for $7.99 on BF then we're good.

Speaking of the vinyl, did you see that Mondo "re-released" it with "space packaging" ?? Fuckers.

I did and I'm skipping it. I wouldn't mind the 2001 one, though. I have the Mondo splatter variant of Gravity (blue & white).

I think they're all blue & white (at least, mine is too!)

Yeah, 2001 would be nice, but... ehh. I couldn't justify the cost to ship it to Canada.

i'm a sucker for good bonus material and a whole other version of the film would seal the deal unfortunately...

So you have to choose between the 2 releases: Want the 3D experience? Then you don't get Dolby Atmos. Want the Dolby Atmos experience? Then you don't get 3D.

Re: Gravity (2D/3D - 2-25) no 7.1 surround sound mix!!

Gravity in IMAX 3D was one of the very very few films to actually blow my mind with its 3D experience. Im certain my 55' Sony 3D TV will be unable to replicate that and I'm not ready to upgrade my sound system to Atmos. So, basically, will wait a little longer before I own this movie.

The same thing that happens to any other 7.1 track when you play it on a 5.1 system. The back surround channels will be folded into the main surround channels. It'll sound fine.

It looked fantastic on my 60" Sharp AQUOS LC-60LE847U 3DTV but now I feel inadequate by 10".

106" 2.35:1 CIH projection screen here. Not 3D, though.

(Still, looks amazing )
