This I really wanna know. I hope we don't get a repeat of Mission: impossible - Ghost Protocol.

Well, content trumps packaging, so I canceled the Wal-Mart order and added the Target version. I really wish that for store exclusives, extra content isn't on the table. Do whatever you want with the packaging, but don't leave stuff extra material off the regular release to satisfy some fucking retailer.

Looks like the Walmart version doesn't include 3D.
Target version with digibook does have 3D

Yeah, I hate that shit, too.

Plus, it's Target so there's not telling how many copies each store will actually get.

And, in addition to that, there's a good chance that they will damage the digibook by either wrapping it tightly with spiders or jamming into a hard plastic locking case that's too small for the digibook.

I've pre-ordered the Walmart exclusive. I love my little ships.

Goddammit, I work at another retail store which we shall not name and I can get my employee discount! What exclusive content will be on this Target disc? And I don't want to wait another two week for this now that it's already out digitally. And iTunes won't let you RENT it, no. On a tangetal note, if I put an iTunes rental on a USB stick, could I watch it on my BR player? I'm assuming it'd still auto-delete itself after 24 hours?

I'd assume that the file will be encrypted and you won't be able to play it in a Blu-ray player.

Not sure if it was intended or not, but I think this is the first Paramount 3D title that doesn't say "Limited 3D Edition"

I ordered mine online so those two things shouldn't affect me.

Blu-ray.com Review

I loved this movie so much I bought the early release on iTunes and am still planning to get one of the exclusive releases.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

Glad it got a perfect score for audio and video but slightly disappointed that the IMAX scenes remained matted at 2.40:1. I was hoping for something akin to The Dark Knight, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (the Wal-Mart exclusive release), Tron: Legacy, and The Dark Knight Rises.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

Sucks about the IMAX stuff, I refused to see the IMAX version theatrically since I had zero interest in post-converted 3-D, so it looks like I'll never see them in the proper aspect ratio. Wonder why the hell Paramount is doing it that way?

So basically, unless I watch it on my computer or buy an Apple TV, I'm suck. Great incentive there.

On my SD DVD version, the IMAX sequences are included separately as special features, I assume the BR cropped them to 1.78 and actually included them in the film itself and switched ratios during viewing like it did at the IMAX theater? I've never forgiven myself for missing DKR and Inception in IMAX.

To be specific, there is a Target version with the 3D, 2D, bonus disc, and DVD for $34.99, and a version with just 2D, bonus disc, and DVD for $29.99. The latter is the one I ordered.

Well, isn't this just fucking special? Hopefully not a harbinger of things to come about the further death of and disinterest of studios in physical media, but I'm thinking that too. But in the meantime, just fuck you, Paramount. Fuck you sideways. And I wholeheartedly agree with him about Paramount being so uncaring about the much-needed director's cuts too.

I know with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, they put the lion's share of bonus content into the Best Buy edition. There were a few iTunes-exclusive featurettes, I think, but at least they were included with the iTunes Digital Copy that came with the Blu-ray combo pack. It's a bit unclear to me right now, but it seems Paramount is apparently making disc purchasers choose between the UltraViolet and iTunes Digital Copies with Star Trek Into Darkness. At least with Ghost Protocol, we got both.

Farming out the commentary track is a brand new low.

I think I've lost my enthusiasm for this release, which is particularly disappointing for me. I enjoyed it enough I went to see it during its theatrical run twice - which is not common for me these days.

Star Trek and World War Z are gonna be a double feature starting Friday. Plan to catch them before deciding if I need to buy either release week.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

I half considered canceling my Target pre-order, but even if a big boycott happens, Paramount will just think interest in Star Trek has gone down.

But if I can get some of these features without re-buying the movie, I will. As far as I'm concerned, I've paid for the product, Paramount just did a bad job delivering it all in one place. And they wonder why piracy is on the rise.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

Just read about how split up these special features are I can't help other then to think how crazy this is getting. Cases, covers etc. is one thing. Content should be universal on the blu-rays. They ware making things far too complicated. DVD Edition with whatever extras work for it- Blu-Ray with everthing! (DVD, 3D etc..) There, simple as they charge enough as it is.

Fuck Paramount.

I won't be buying any version of this blu-ray. I'm not going to play these games.
