Yeah, at this point I think I'm just going to wait for a few more years until they have the box set for all 3 available in one package.

Day 1 for me. The additional footage doesn't mean much to me, but the features look good. The features on those LOTR releases are one of the few worth any replay value.

I'm wondering if when all is said and done, there will be a big-ass boxed set of all six movies with everything on it?

Probably. Look how many there are for Harry Potter and they kept cranking set after set even before they got halfway through that series.
It's all about the $$$$$

Yes. the original release had essentially 15-20 'webisodes' which were online before the movie came out. each are about 5 minutes each, gives a little info on production but nothing really spoilery. This new set is the real deal

I will buy the EE for the extras. I doubt the extra footage will make me like the movie much more - still not crazy about it. But hopefully the next two will make me look back on it favorably.

There are some (like myself) who want this release for the extras, in fact a few posts stated as much. Also, if they're as good as the ones for LOTR, it'd be worth it.
As a side, I wouldn't expect these Hobbit extended cuts will add very much given they already split one story into three parts.

I would be interested in a possible 2 1/2 to 3hr final cut, I think it could be a lot more enjoyable than this Heaven's Gate approach we have right now.

The longer cut will run at 184 minutes.

Too bad the theatrical cut wasn't a bit shorter and this extended cut could have added 30+ plus minutes.
I'll probably buy this for the special features but to be honest, I'm not quite as excited about this as I was for the LOTR extended cuts.

The more the merrier. Love the filmed Middle Earth universe.

Yeah, I recognize a lot of the flaws in the movie, but I just really love spending time in Jackson's version of Tolkien's world with these actors and characters in this the universe. I suppose that's what comes of having no life of my own

I might get that statue edition. I have all the other statues/bookends from sideshow that came with the special editions of the DVDs from back in the day.

The extended edition of The Hobbit is being released in 3D in a more basic package according to the following link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...=nosim/dvdtalk
I assume it's the same as the more expensive ones minus the statues? Does anyone know if the extended edition will also include the theatrical on 1 of the 5 discs? In an ideal world, the 3D disc would have both cuts in 3D with seamless branching, while the 2D disc would have both cuts in 2D with seamless branching, but I have a feeling they will only give us 1 cut in each package so they can triple dip later.
Is the new extended edition missing any footage from the theatrical release or does it just add more scenes? Is it missing any extras/special features from the earlier theatrical BD release? If not, I'll get this extended when it's on sale.

Yes. 13 minutes of NEW footage (restored footage) and the Appendices, which will run for many hours. In addition to the commentary tracks.
