Compared to the 2001 DVD Special Edition release, this new Blu-ray is missing the following:
  • Original Mono soundtrack
  • Teaser, 2 Trailers, and 2 TV Spots
  • The 1-hour "Other Voices" documentary - 13 minutes of the doc is presented on the Blu-ray, covering only the Visual Effects and Music. I don't understand why the whole documentary isn't included?!
  • Easter Eggs - 40 minutes worth of interviews filmed during (but not included on) the Other Voices documentary.
  • Optional James Cameron commentary is missing on the 7 deleted scenes
  • Still Galleries: James Cameron Artwork, Production Photos, Stan Winston Effects, Fantasy II: Visual Effects, Publicity Materials
  • Original 40-page James Cameron treatment
And, of course, the new color grading. After watching the DVD and Blu-ray side-by-side, the new color grading definitely gives it a more modern look and feel, and robs it of its distinct 80's look.
No mono soundtrack ? Then, this is a big fat waste of everyone here's time and money.

I finally found this at Wal-Mart last night for $9.96.

I watched about half the movie before bed and the picture looks excellent. The lack of the original soundtrack is annoying but that's one of the reasons I'm keeping my Special Edition DVD.

All for it if they release it with the original color timing and mono soundtrack.

Yeah. This movie isn't coming into my collection until we get the mono and original look back.

I've already mentioned (I think) that you can get the original mono track by demuxing it from the DVD and remuxing it back into the (demuxed) h.264 video stream from the Blu. It's only 192 kbits, but having it to go with the 1080p video is so much better than the crappy remixed 5.1 track.

Give me the original color timing and mono or nothing. My old DVD will suffice until then.

Re: The Terminator: Remastered - 2/19/2013

I watched this last night. I was very much aware of the "blue blanket" overlaying the image. In some redone films, the teal tint is not noticeable, but this one definitely was.

Also, the soundtrack is awful! In one scene, a car flips over at high speed and lands on its roof. At the point of impact, there was almost no sound at all! More like a tin can than a car roof.

If you haven't picked this up yet, check your local Walmart. I saw this today in their $7.88 bin. This version also contained a Vudu digital copy.

If anyone is still looking for this, it now looks like Target is carrying it for $7.50 in stores.

A friend got this for me. Colors are off but technically speaking... the image is gorgeous. I haven't seen T1 in a very long time but the gunshots sound so off. Took me out of the movie for a bit.

They put in some new gunshot foley when they made the surround mix for the Special Edition DVD (which is the same mix they're still using).
There are some parts of that mix that bother me more than the new color timing. The issue could've been fixed by including the mono mix on the Blu-Ray too, but of course they didn't.

Re: The Terminator: Remastered - 2/19/2013

Maybe someday we'll get a version with the correct, theatrical color-timing and the mono track included. Too much to ask?

In the meantime, you can multiplex the mono audio track on the old 1999 DVD into the .m2ts file on the Blu-ray, rip n burn, and you've at least solved the audio problem... Imperfect solution, but it works for now.

Re: The Terminator: Remastered - 2/19/2013

Anybody know what's the deal with this release? Same as the last one (just with a different cover) or will it feature a different master and/or the original mono?

I normally don't double dip for reasons like this but I actually might go for this re-release. The red case and new cover art are pretty cool looking to me.

Same disc as before. No movie cash. Just a new red case, artwork, and SLIPCOVER!

I didn't expect movie cash. Genisys is a Paramount release whereas The Terminator is an MGM film distributed by Fox.

The lack of movie cash is not why I'm passing. It's the fact that they just repackaged the same disc as before. I already have it and a new cover is no reason for me to purchase it again.

Oh, there are 2 new featurettes with James Cameron when you redeem the digital code. These are digital only.
