Yeah. I wouldn't do that for me.

Can a mod or the OP update the thread title with the correct release date?

They did.

Re: Dredd 3D -- 1/08/13

After reading various reviews that the 2D transfer isn't that great, going to wait for a sale.

I saw it in theaters, so I already did my part.

I want this to sell like hot cakes so maybe Lionsgate will at least greenlight a direct to video sequel (wishful thinking )

If only. Apparently this was envisioned as a trilogy and would eventually feature the Dark Judges.

Links to those reviews cuz Dredd, from the reviews I've read, seems to be a pretty good reproduction of the image from what we got in theaters.

Sorry, there's no reason the 2D transfer should be worse than the 3D. I'm waiting for a sale/price drop.

Re: Dredd 3D -- 1/08/13

Is this one of the instances like Underworld: Awakening in terms of 3D vs. 2D transfers?

I really need to upgrade to a 3D set sometime this year.

Apparently.

The review says the 2D transfer isn't bad, but it appears to be half assed.

Looking around a bit more seems like either people see a 2D issue or don't see a 2D issue.

These screenshots make it look just fine to me. And I remember there being noise in the low light shots when I saw it in 3D. So if the 2D version features the same, it's accurate to the source.

Re: Dredd 3D -- 1/08/13

I thought the 2D was just one "eye" of the 3D video file on this disc. Is it actually a separate encode?

In this case, it should not be a separate encode.

Re: Dredd 3D -- 1/08/13

I wrote that High Def Digest review. The 2D isn't as good of an experience as the 3D, but it's still totally watchable.

I think the main issue, which is mosquito noise, isn't as noticeable in 3D because you've got so much going on in any given frame. There may be the same amount of noise, but your eyes aren't registering it.

Really dumb question, is it still better than the DVD release? If it's not, I'll save myself $3-4.

Re: Dredd 3D -- 1/08/13

I haven't watched the DVD release, so I cannot say, but if there's 3D on the DVD it'll have to be red/blue. As far as 2D goes, I can only imagine that the other benefits of Blu-ray will offset the mosquito noise, which for all I know is probably present on the DVD as well.

If you're thinking of upgrading to a 3DTV, this is a stellar 3D release and very much worth picking up, especially at the $20 price it's going for on Amazon.

Re: Dredd 3D -- 1/08/13

I want a 3D TV, just because Dredd was amazing in 3D. If I had one, I would be Day 1ing this, no question. Since I don't, I'm going to wait.

Dredd was my reason for upgrading as well.

My current set is on it's last legs I think, so an upgrade to a 3DTV would make a ton of sense right now.

Hopefully I'll be able to pick one up this year! I guess if that is the plan, I should pick up the BD release of Dredd on Tuesday.

Re: Dredd 3D -- 1/08/13

For anyone looking for a good HDTV, I highly recommend the Panasonic ST50 line. It has picture quality almost as good as the higher end (and much more expensive) VT50 line, and has been getting rave reviews across the board. It's the one I went with and I've been in love with the PQ.

It's plasma, which I know some people don't like, but it's worth it. The only downside is that it doesn't come with 3D glasses included.
