Now $29.99 is a price I like.
I bought the dvd set last year and it is still unopened so maybe I should sell it.

FYI, the team behind Never Sleep Again just announced on their FB page that it's coming to BD first quarter 2014. Supposedly, many new extras will be presented.

It better damn well be !
I just hope it wont be upscale seeing that it was most likely shot digital.
It's a double dip and not sure how much having this DOC in HD will really be anything special, but the new extras sounds good.

I am in for it. I just got the NOES set last week after having not seen the films since their original theater releases and really enjoyed watching them again.

Nice. I never have been as big a fan of Freddy but I've heard a bunch of good things about Never Sleep Again that I'll buy it. Need to pick up the collection of the films too. I only own the original Nightmare on Elm Street currently.

They definitely shot it in HD. I know they were bummed a BD couldn't be done initially. If I can find out what's being added, I'll report back.

Are the BRs of NOES 1 and 7 in the proper aspect ratios, not upscales, and have the original mono tracks, or not? I remember that they had the remixes on the DVD version boxed set, at least for the first movie.

They all have their original sound mixes- parts 4-6 were released in Dolby Stereo originally, not mono, and New Nightmare was released in DTS. The DVDs were 1.85 but the Blus are open-matte, what really bugs me is on all the movies but the first they replaced the original New Line Cinema logos with the current one with the "A TimeWarner Company" byline.

Open-matte? What do you mean? They wouldn't be 1.33. So they cropped all of the films in the whole set, or just the first movie?

. I still don't get how it can be open-matte if it isn't 1.33 though. So it sounds like the releases were fouled up? I'm actually more confused now

See this post for examples of the difference.
Oh, and look at that, I was responding to you in that post.

The original theatrical aspect ratio was 1.85:1. The video transfers have had the mattes opened slightly to 16:9 (1.78:1). The difference is a few scan lines. It doesn't affect the compositional intent. Warner Bros. and Paramount both do this to all 1.85:1 movies as policy.
See this post for examples of the difference.

Do forgive me.
I missed that post for some reason, must've paged to the next one and overlooked it.

No worries.
Keep in mind that cinematographers know enough to frame their shots with a little leeway around the edges. The image you see projected in a movie theater is rarely a precise replication of what's contained on the camera negative. The next time you go to a theater, take a close look, and you may even see parts of the picture projected off the screen. This is incredibly common. Later, there's also TV overscan to contend with. (Even many modern HDTVs are programmed to include some overscan by default unless the user is savvy enough to dig through the settings and turn it off.)
Filmmakers know this, and plan accordingly for it. Camera viewfinders have "safe zone" etchings to mark where they should try to keep the important action away from the edges. The difference between 1.85:1 and 1.78:1 is outside the safe zone, and well within tolerances.

Didn't know if this warranted its own thread, but Never Sleep Again is coming to BD in January.

It was mentioned, but definitely cool news!! I really liked Crystal Lake Memories so I'm excited for this one too (I know it's been out but I haven't seen it yet).
Also just scored this box set off Amazon last week. That deal where it was $25.99 was pretty great and even better after I had some Amazon points to use which brought it down to only $10. I haven't seen most of the films in a long time and don't remember most of them that well except for the original, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and Wes Craven's New Nightmare.
