That was before Mattel introduced the Monster High toy line. I can't help but think that had at least a little to do with this getting released.

You know how kids go through those phases where they're obsessed with a certain kind of toy franchise, then eventually they move on to something else? Right now, my niece loves Monster High and wants her backpack, lunchbox, all that stuff this fall to be MH.

Wow. 3D Creature and the classics. A dream come true. I can stop buying discs after this release. (But I won't!)

Nice looking package. I would have loved for them to just upgrade all of the Legacy Collection sets (and do some of the additional classics) but this is a nice set.

DAY 1. GUARANTEED.

And I'm so glad the date is 10/2 instead of the old rumored 10/23. I want this set now. And that's a realistic list price for the set. Should be able to get it for $99 or less. I can handle that.

Wasn't there supposed to be some new extras with David J. Skal, or were we just assuming that?

Must have been an oversight, extras will be included for those three:

Phantom of the Opera -

Audio commentary with Scott MacQueen
The Opera Ghost: A Phantom Unmasked behind-the-scenes featurette
100 Years Of Universal featurette: The Lot
Theatrical trailer
Production photographs

Creature from the Black Lagoon -

3D version of the film
Audio commentary with Tom Weaver
Back to The Black Lagoon behind-the-scenes featurette
100 Years Of Universal featurette: The Lot
Trailer gallery
Production photographs

The Invisible Man -

Audio commentary by film historian Rudy Behlmer
Now You See Him: The Invisible Man Revealed behind-the-scenes featurette
100 Years Of Universal featurette: Unforgettable Characters
Production photographsp
The book will be 48 pages. and the set, like the Hitchcock one, will be 'limited'.

Agreed on the earlier release date. I'm hoping to find a good pre-order deal so I can enjoy it through October.

For anyone who owns the Legacy sets - have all the extras been ported over? Are there any new ones?

I can't wait for this. Now I just need to see what box set that I have already pre-ordered gets canceled.

I'm assuming the Creature From The Black Lagoon is "new" 3D (for capable TV/players)? Or do you think they're going the ol' blue/red glasses route...that WAS the way it came out in theaters, right?

There's no way they'd go with the old, cheap glasses when every company is trying to push 3D TVs and players now.

It looks like aside from a commentary track on Creature, and a couple of the Van Helsing fluff pieces everything else is there, plus new stuff.

I'd love a box of the sequels, but it seems unlikely.

No that WAS NOT how it came out in theaters. Creature and all the other 3D films of the 50's used clear polorized glasses exactly like the ones we used today. Red/Blue anaglyph 3D was used for comic books and some TV broadcasts of 3D movies.

The Tom Weaver commentary is included. It's a great one too - the guy is like a walking encyclopedia!

8 discs, list price of $159.99. Amazon's pre-order price will likely be $111.99 (30% off, like Hitchcock), with the Gold Box taking it down 5% to $106.39. Quite reasonable for nine films and over 12 hours of extras, plus what looks like a nice little book.

Don't know how I overlooked that haha. So it looks like nothing of any real significance is missing.

Looks like the only new extra is a restoration doc on Dracula.

Nearly $500 just for Bond, Hitchcock and Universal Monsters, and that's with the various Gold Boxes applied!
