Avengers has been setup for years and had a huge fan base looking forward to it, the Internet marketed the movie all by itself.

Sure, there were tons of commercials and ads, but word of mouth is more important that any other thing marketing can come up with.

Marketing can make for a huge opening, but then word of mouth and 2nd viewing takes over, that is what makes for mega hits in the box-office.

So that said...who gives a shit what the poster looks like? If it doesn't matter (and I agree that it doesn't) then why not just Photoshop something together and call it good?

Some details on the 10-disc set;

Though an official date is still unconfirmed, an interesting tease has shown up Amazon for something called the "Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled" Blu-ray collection. The tentative list of content for the ten-disc set reads as follows:

• Marvel’s The Avengers (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Captain America: The First Avenger (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Thor (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Iron Man 2 (Blu-ray)
• The Incredible Hulk (Blu-ray)
• Iron Man (Blu-ray)
• Bonus Disc - “The Phase One Archives” (Blu-ray)
• Collectible packaging with exclusive memorabilia from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The listing also includes the below image, which hints that the set might mimic the briefcase that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury uses to transport the Cosmic Cube. Whatever is under the S.H.I.E.L.D. cloth, though, is said to be revealed on July 15th.

Since I only own a barebones Captain America on Blu-Ray, I might be tempted to pick this up, if the price-point is right.

So, uh, what happened to the bonus discs that were apart of Iron Man and Iron Man 2?

Probably ported into “The Phase One Archives” disc.

Amazon has a $5 off coupon to use on the 4-disc set. Expires June 7.

I clipped the coupon!

 that they're still doing the lame-ass "Blu-ray in DVD packaging"

I'd hope so cuz...IM has some damn fine features that I don't want to lose. I was astonished when I got the IM DVD back in the day. Very nice features.

I pre-ordered with it as well. I figured they may price this one very aggressively in week 1 since it is such a massive hit. So maybe the 3D set will drop down to $24.99 at some point.

For War Horse, Disney provided the 4-disc combo pack in BD packaging, or the 2-disc combo pack in DVD packaging. There was no 2-disc combo in a BD case. I hope that doesn't become a trend.

Re: The Avengers - Sept. 25, 2012

Hopefully the 10 disc set doesn't get a lot of extra new stuff added to it that isn't available either on the existing discs or on one of The Avengers releases. I already bought them all and won't be double dipping but don't want to miss out on something because I already bought the pre-existing releases. Wishful thinking I know as it seems that studios tend to not reward their fans who buy things as they come out rather than waiting for a big set to be released.

I am sure there will be some people trying to make a buck that will put the bonus disc on eBay, etc... for unreasonable prices.. but will still be more affordable than a double dip..

I just noticed the release date is now missing on the Amazon listings. Any clue why?

Disney could possibly be delaying the release if the rumors on re-releasing the film to theaters in August as a three-hour "director's cut" are true.

I'm so tempted to place an order for the 10-disc set with all of them. I have only bought Hulk, and IM 1 & 2 individually. If the big set has a number of exclusive extras, I may just give in.

Re: The Avengers - Sept. 25, 2012

I thought of pre-ordering it but $153 is a bit excessive for me (and that's not mentionning the $220 retail price). It's something I see getting major discounts down the line, but by then I'll have purchased Avengers alone and my interest will have gone down.

Re: The Avengers - Sept. 25, 2012

The Avengers had a 7.1 audio theatrical release, so we should get that on the BD. This should quickly become the go-to demo disc.

<s>No thanks. The Avengers was a crappy movie, and not worth owning. It should be renamed Transformers 4: The Avengers</s>

You should read this post and follow its advice.

This is particularly relevant, since you violate it word for word:

One commonly seen threadcrap is someone posting that "___________ is a crappy movie" in a thread dedicated to information about the movie's DVD release. The point of the thread isn't to discuss the quality of the movie, but to discuss the movie's DVD release.

Shoo, go away. If you're not going to talk about the blu ray release, you have no business here. Go to the Movie forum instead. In fact, don't go there either.

He should post his views in Book Talk. It's not like anyone posts there anyway.
