Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread
Since they call it a misfire and it isn't as good as their other releases, I can skip it. I would have bought it in time if it was a good release. Now I can save my money and keep the DVD.

Anyone here any remaining numbers on The Big Heat? $30 is a bit much right now especially when I'm upgrading some Criterions. Also and add me to the camp as not knowing about the Limited Release numbers of Twilight Time. I had no idea there was a current company that did this. It sucks for people who have limited budgets. I can maybe spend $60 a month on DVDs/Blurays, not hundreds like some here.

If it helps, you can order a copy through Amazon...still getting it from those guys but paying through Amazon's system. If you have any gift certificates, if your credit card has a rewards program tied in with Amazon, etc., that might ease the sting a little. That's what I ended up doing.

I don't think the email from Monday stating that they're down to less than 300 of each helped any. It pushed me to buy a copy of Journey from amazon. Amazon ended up being 20 cents cheaper to order from instead of their main store.

Island is going fast, down to 245. Better get it now if you want it.

Big Heat will likely be the next TT title to sell out, but that's probably at least three months away. There are 491 copies in stock, with assumedly one more shipment of 1,000 left.

I imagine this will be my first Twilight Time title. I've wanted a few of them but just never had the money to put down. Once my new job comes through, I've already decided that I'm going to splurge on that one.

Thanks for the info. It will for sure be a next month purchase for me. I saw this movie one time in the theaters about 10 years ago and loved it. The DVD was one I just never got around to purchasing, mostly because it was always kind of higher priced. But seeing the comparison screen caps between the DVD and the Blu-ray, and knowing that the Blu-ray is limited- who knows if it'll ever be on disc again?
One disc I really regret selling is the Third Man. I needed the $100 it was fetching earlier this year when I wasn't getting enough work. It would make my day if Criterion ever got the rights back. Oops, sorry about the derail.

Twilight Time sends out emails and posts go up on Screen Archives' web site whenever a title goes under 500 copies or so. Probably on their Facebook page too, but I haven't paid attention to that. So I'm sure decent stock of The Big Heat remains. When it gets low, they will make sure information goes out through multiple channels.

You see... they underestimated their market for JOURNEY. This limited edition crap just makes it easier to give in to the nefarious temptation of going to the torrents for what I want.

Admittedly, I would love some of these titles to be cheaper, or to have more extras than just an isolated score (hell, I would've loved for Rapture to have gotten the full-blown Criterion treatment). But the fact is that if they didn't release these films on Blu-Ray, it's very likely that we wouldn't see these films on Blu at all. In the end, I'm just happy that I can watch Fright Night in HD, and I didn't have to pay triple digits to get a copy.

And it would have been a lot cheaper. Look how much Image is charging for their titles from Sony. They have similar titles from them like The collector which goes for all of 11.97 on amazon.

Well, you *can* pre-order them. You can also just wait until it's released. I think a pre-order would just guarantee that you would get it before it sells out.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread
Journey took nine weeks to sell a paltry 3,000 copies. Doesn't sound to me like they underestimated anything. Sounds like they got their estimate just right on that one, and have overestimated the demand for every other title they've licensed that can't scrape together even 3,000 sales.
If this had been a high-demand title, 3,000 copies would have sold in a blink, not taken nine weeks.
Twilight Time's goal in licensing these titles is to sell them, not to keep unsold stock sitting around for years for the benefit of a smattering of fans who can't be bothered to buy them when they're available, or who refuse to pay more than $10 a piece for them out of some sense of entitlement that they shouldn't have to pay more than bargain bin prices for anything.
If Twilight Time had licensed 5,000 copies, how long do you think that would take to sell out? Six months? A year? How about 10,000 copies? Would they ever sell that many? Should they have licensed a million copies from Fox and just leave all those unsold copies rotting in their warehouse forever?
