re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
It would be awesome if they put out all three. MGM put out Sabotage and Young & Innocent on DVD but I'm pretty sure all of Hitchcock's British films are public domain so it wouldn't be a problem.
If MGM was going to put them out on blu-ray I would have thought instead of just repackaging Rebecca, Spellbound, and Notorious they would have done a boxset with all 3 of them along with Sabotage, Young & Innocent, Paradine Case, and The Lodger. Either way if Criterion puts those 3 out that'll make an unbroken block of 6 British Hitchcock Criterion blu-rays. :) |

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
Nevermind, my bad. I found this page: http://www.hitchcockwiki.com/wiki/Co...itchcock_films
So, they were public domain from the time they were 50 years old until the new laws were put into place in 1996. Now, "Once a work is restored, a person or business who is a reliance party may continue to exploit the work without liability until the restored copyright owner either serves actual notice on the reliance party or until the Copyright Office published in the Federal Register a notice of intent to restore copyright. Once either of these occurs, the reliance party has one year to sell off stock. The reliance party may not make further copies of the work." And since they have been served notice, all of those companies still selling those copies after a year are essentially selling bootlegs, right? Well, here's hoping for good quality legal copies of them over here then. If nothing else we know the "Hitchcock 9" were restored. I hope they come out in the US on blu-ray, but I hope they're not overly expensive. I'm not downplaying the restoration efforts, but just don't want to pay $30 a movie for them. Maybe if Criterion got them they could put out an Eclipse set. |

individual releases for the Universal titles are up for pre-order on amazon minus THE BIRDS, VERTIGO and REAR WINDOW. i'm assuming (and hoping) they'll be putting these 3 out in special editions (or maybe digibooks?).

I might as well post this here: Secret Agent, Sabotage and Young and Innocent have all shown up on Criterion's Hulu, so it's probably safe to assume blu-rays are coming at some point.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
Also note the UK has a pre-order date of 5/13 for THE BIRDS, REAR WINDOW, SABOTEUR and FAMILY PLOT.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
The Hitchcock Essentials Collection is arriving on June 4. Includes Psycho, Rear Window, North by Northwest, The Birds, Vertigo.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg On July 2nd, we're getting single releases of Saboteur, Shadow of a Doubt, Rope & The Trouble with Harry. |
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
Sweet news Mr. Cinema, thanks for the heads-up.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
Glad I held out. Psycho, Rear Window, Vertigo, North By Northwest and The Birds are the only Hitchcock I want to own. Odd that that is exactly what I am being offered. Now I am getting worried that the ceiling is going to collapse in on me as I sit here typing this.

These movies are better than I expected and I'm hoping that once the tour completes we'll get a Cirterion/Eclipse box set here or a BFI release that we can easily import. |
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
Marnie is arriving separately on September 3rd.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
Psycho, The Birds, Vertigo, and Rear Window will be re-released separately on June 3. All will come with UV digital copies.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
I saw Rear Window listed for $7.99 in the newspaper but it must be a typo since it is not available anywhere or for shipping online

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
It's available in several places that I checked.
|
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
I also saw The Birds, Psycho, and a couple of others in store this past weekend.
|
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
According to the Frys website no bay area store within 25 miles has it unless their website is messed up and every other retail store it is $14.99 or above.

It certainly is. If I walked into a store and saw a Hitchcock film on BD for $6 I'd buy it instantly. 15 of those visits spread out over a couple years I'd own them all. But for some reason the $100 all at once just looks too big....

Yeah I agree. I saw the deal and was almost tempted but can't make myself bite on the order. Especially because I know if I'd get it I'd watch my favorites and the rest would probably sit there for a long time before I got to watching them.

That's why I ultimately just went for the Essential Collection with Rear Window, Vertigo, North By Northwest, Psycho, and The Birds. I think it was 30-35 dollars when I got it. I picked up the Shadow of a Doubt single and will probably pick up the other Jimmy Stewart titles someday, but there's no way I was going to get too much rewatch value out of something like Saboteur or any of the late period titles.
