for a limited edition, the slap dash transfers seem much to be desired.

They brought back the LE on co.uk, so I'll (re)order it for right now...with an itchy cancel button finger.

I don't know guys...the set didn't get THAT big of a delay - I wonder if the credits are the ONLY issues they are correcting. Who knows? They'll probably just fix the spelling on the credits, but still have the all the other issues.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread

It's either of two scenarios: 1) They didn't need a big delay because they are indeed only correcting the credits, which shouldn't take that long (although as the reviewer pointed out, dialing back the DNR on the film will not take much longer so hopefully they do that as well). 2) They didn't want a bigger delay because that would start having an impact on Christmas sales (which I assume will be one of their biggest draws for this set), so they're biting the bullet and having lots of people work on this.

Sadly, number 1 is far more likely.

I figured if anything was going to be fixed, it would only be something minor. It seemed unlikely that Universal would pull back everything and start all over again.

So maybe if the intern had been a better typist, there would be no delay at all

the larger UK set now shows an 11/5 date
the standard UK packaging still shows 10/1 but I assume that will be updated as well

I read on criterionforum.org that the German set has been pushed to December. No clue why their delay is longer.

Yep, my giant Hitchcock set has been pushed back to 11/5 from the UK. Oh well, gives me some more time to save up.

I'm almost certain the credits have to be fixed, due to the strict union rules of the various guilds in Hollywood. Universal is not doing this fix out of the kindness of their heart.

Precisely what I was thinking. The delay is to fix the credits out of obligation to the unions and/or fear that it may cloud their copyright to the film. They're not delaying it to fix the transfers. Since when has Universal given a shit about tranfers?

sad, but very true.

oh, and I was very impressed with the Fathom Event's screening of The Birds this afternoon- normally I shudder at the thought of Fathom satellite projection PQ, but this one fooled me into thinking I was watching a DCP.

Wow, how disappointing. Will probably cancel my pre-order.

I dunno. When someone says "haloing", I think of edge enhancement. Whatever that effect is here, it's clearly optical in nature.

Many of those screenshots are disappointing, but the best ones still look pretty spectacular. I'd be in no matter what -- a cheap date for all things Hitchcock or Grace Kelly's name on the bill -- and I remain cautiously optimistic.

Well, after reading RAH's comments about the 2D, I am probably back in. I've changed my mind around 1209 times in the last few hours.

I'm a bit new to the whole film lingo, so reading RAH's comments I wasn't exactly sure what he meant at times.

He replied to someone commenting on 'softness' issues that they were most likely due to 'dupes'. I take it that means these are shots where the original camera negatives no longer exist and duplicates had to be used?

So is the UK set region-free or not? And why is Universal gouging the US so much more than the UK with these sets?

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread

The Universal set should be region free. I have the Universal blu-rays of Psycho and Jaws -- both region free.

I'll be scooping up Dial M for Murder and Strangers On A Train (already have The Lodger and Lifeboat on Blu-ray) and any other title that won't be part of the set just to have Hitchcock's entire (almost) filmography on Blu-ray.
