I'm guessing they'll start to slowly start coming back beginning next year or 2024 due to the Avatar movies, which sparked a resurgence last time they were around.
Oh I’m fairly well aware of what’s available in other regions, in part due to that other forum that I find reading akin to having teeth pulled, but I let them do the digging then bide my time and try to get used “international” 3D discs from certain Marketplace vendors on Amazon US and Canada who charge standard shipping, and have had decent luck. Won’t buy every 3D title, but have found a lot of just worthwhile Euro and Asian discs, usually films only released in those markets (or dumped straight to 2D DVD over here). As you noted, some have no English track or subs, so I wing it and just enjoy the visuals. Still, I do tend to think the peak has passed even in those countries. I’m just glad that the format continues to reward us in little ways (3D Archive, Japanese Marvels, Random Space). I’m skeptical about AVATAR 2 causing a major resurgence, but I’m hopeful for a minor one, even if it means only a couple of TV models with the feature reinstalled, for example, and a continuation of the occasional gems that pop up on disc.

My only reference to the whole Avatar causing a resurgence is because the first movie did back in 2010, roughly 2 years after the movie came out. Hence my guess of next year to 2024 TV’s getting 3D back.

And I just read this article. Confirms how big 3D still is in other parts of the world, as well as a re-thinking of how 3D should be done and presented. Funny part is that Disney is looking to do a huge push for the Avatar movies, starting with Lightyear and JW: Dominion. However I haven’t seen these available in 3D locally. But it looks like overall it’s still in the discussion, and where there’s revenue, there’s studio interest. I’m sure they’ll take a stab at TV’s as well.

And let’s see how the US audience reacts to sitting through 3D in theaters again.

It's not coming back to TVs.

Honest question - do they even show movies in 3D anymore? I thought that stopped PRE-COVID and now can't even think why it would still be around.

They will. That's my point. Vudu still offers 3D on a ton of movies and continues to expand it.

I also said the same thing considering I couldn't see Lightyear or Jurassic Park anywhere in 3D - until I checked Fandango. Turns out they do still have regular showings, albeit on 1-2 screens once a day. So yes, they are still around. And as that article I posted stated, a lot of other countries continue to go to see 3D showings.

Seriously? I've seen two in theatres in the last three weeks – DR. STRANGE 2 and JURASSIC WORLD 3 (or whatever). I see RISE OF GRU and LIGHTYEAR both have multiple 3D screenings in the theatres all across the city here (so did BAD GUYS). THOR 4 is coming out in 3D, and surely whatever other Marvel pictures are scheduled for this year. Even that 3-hour Indian movie RRR that folks here have been praising played here theatrically in a 3D option. And there are undoubtedly several other high-profile movies coming out this year with 3D options. What made you think they stopped showing them when they're still actively making them?

Whether the feature comes back on TV's – even for a limited time – is anyone's guess. But wholesale brushing off the format doesn't mean it no longer exists, regardless even of how well- or poorly-attended such screenings are, or whether we fans have to source the Blu-rays from other countries.

just saw Black Widow on Bluray 3D and it really looked good. one of the better Marvel conversions. lots of depth, a few popouts and dimension. really nice, pleasantly surprised presentation and i even liked the movie better because of it. especially the IMAX scenes. those were especially great in 3D.

I honestly have not been to the Theaters in years, but never see 3D advertised. I'm actually a bit shocked they still bother.

I can't see it ever coming back to a major TV, because there isn't much media released that have 3D options (any in the USA still?), retailers are pretty much not even stocking normal Blu-rays, and TVs are cheaper than ever. 3D on TV isn't gonna make a dent to anyone to put that feature back in, but dumber things have happened.

Some. The majors have mostly walked away in the U.S., except for Warner. Dune is the only real notable major release domestically so far this year, and they put out a couple others last year, like Godzilla vs. Kong and Wonder Woman 1984. Universal also put out a Croods movie in 3D last year stateside. The market for 3D titles is small but ravenous, which fits in pretty nicely with boutique labels like KL Studio Classics. On the boutique side, there've been Treasure of the 4 Crowns, Flesh for Frankenstein, and the Paravision Dreams collection so far this year.

I don't see 3DTVs making any sort of comeback, but when PSVR2 comes out next year, I'm hoping it'll support 3D BD playback as its predecessor did since I have a few titles on the shelf I've only watched flat or with the two-tone cardboard glasses (like Silent Madness, A*P*E, Friday the 13th Part III, Dial M for Murder, etc.).

What titles? Maybe I'm searching wrong, but I don't see much via search.

Yeah, it was on the Movies & TV search this morning. Now there isn't anything except a couple of pages of sales.

Just an FYI, TheBang just posted in the Amazon thread this link. It has 12 3D titles. I guess I filtered it wrong.

I posted this on the Vudu thread in the Streaming Forum, but I thought I’d post this here as well. I’ve never had interest in any kind of VR. It seems like a fad that’s never taken off. But I had no idea I could watch Vudu movies on Oculus. Has anyone watched movies this way? How’s the 3D on it? I’m curious to know.

Nice opportunity coming up (in September, I believe) from KL Studio Classics to get all three Pine-Thomas 3D films in a single pack. I believe all three singles went out of print and have been fetching hefty prices.

I had heard about watching 3D on PS VR around 2 years ago or so. I wasn't able to find a new one for sale except through 3rd party vendors with jacked up prices.
Last night I was able to get the Iron Man VR bundle on a Woot off for $299.
Can't wait to try it out. I'm down to 1 working 3D TV now, and don't have the room for a projector.

Skip it, it terrible on the PS VR. Very low-res screens.

For people holding off on Japan Marvel 3D films the exchange rate right now is making them a bit more bearable
