Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Haven't been quick to put my money in for the fundraiser since I want to know if I get anything extra if I donate more than the $35 for the disc. Guess they're not giving screen credits this time? Lucky to be working overtime (more than 60 hours per week) right now and though I'm saving most of it to finally move out of my cluttered apartment, I'll gladly donate to this cause and anything that promotes the availability of more 3D displays (I recently donated to the Change.org petition in my signature.)
Looks like they're giving screen credits on the DYNASTY 3D disc, as per their latest update. Again, pictures of the bonus items can be seen on the Kickstarter page:
I’ve gotten many requests asking if there will be a post-film credit sequence listing the backers on this campaign. I am very happy to say definitely yes; your names will be listed in the restoration credits!
For all backers who have pledged between $35 and $100, your name will be listed as a Donor to this project.
In addition, I’m announcing three extra pledge levels with special rewards for backers.
If you pledge between $100 and $200, your on-screen credit will be Supporter and you will receive this 2003 limited-edition program book from the World 3-D Film Expo in Hollywood. Written by 3-D historian Daniel L. Symmes aka MR. 3-D, this 48 page souvenir book is chock-full of fascinating details and anaglyphic images of all the films presented at that incredible festival. The book includes one (1) pair of red/cyan anaglyphic glasses.
For pledges of $200 and more, your on-screen credit will be Benefactor and you will receive both the 2003 program book and the all-new 2006 souvenir book, with 58 fact-filled pages written by 3-D expert and 3DFA Associative Producer Jack Theakston.
If you pledge $300 and above, your credit will be Ambassador and in addition to receiving both the 2003 and 2006 souvenir books, you will receive a sealed copy of this specially created DVD for the first 3-D World 3-D Film Expo. It contains all of the surviving flat (2-D) Coming Attraction trailers from the Golden Age features plus special bonus extras in red/cyan anaglyphic 3-D.
The souvenir books and DVD are long out of print so these have now become cherished collectors items among 3-D aficionados. If you would like to increase your support for this campaign and secure one of these rare items, this page on Kickstarter will tell you how to increase your existing pledge.
I'll be announcing another very cool bonus extra for this compatible 3-D Blu-ray of Dynasty in the next few days. Please share this campaign and help get the word out.
Thank you very much!

APE is terrible. Not even fun terrible. Just a crappy movie all around.
The Stewardesses isn't great but the short on it is terrific and better than the actual movie. It has great 3D and two gorgeous women with incredible bodies who are pretty much naked for the entire short.
Those Redheads From Seattle is a decent movie but not something I would watch multiple times. I haven;t seen the rest listed above.
Anyone here give thumbs up to any of the others? I have read most of the other stuff above is kinda dull.
How is the 3D Nudie-Cutie Collection? I love some Russ Meyer but I doubt they have that kind of style.

See my review here of that one. It doesn't quite live up to its title, and only the last segment of the main movie Bellboy and the Playgirls is in 3D. Much of it was lifted from a different movie.

But, hey, to each his own. At $7.99, it's not the most foolhardy purchase a 3D enthusiast could make.
I ordered Long Day's Journey into Night.

Anyone get Frozen 2 in 3D from UK or wherever? Saw couple reviews that highly praised movie and production and especially 3D. Better than 1st...

Another addition to the DYNASTY 3D disc, according to a recent update:
You'll notice the name of notorious exploitation legend Michael Findlay in this message, he of legendary 42nd Street faves like the FLESH trilogy, THE ULTIMATE DEGENERATE and the boring parts of 1976's infamous SNUFF, as well as the equally infamous helicopter crash atop New York's Pan Am building in 1976 that took his life in a rather unpleasant fashion. His wife at the time was another sexploitation legend Roberta Findlay. As noted above, Findlay had developed a single-camera 3D system that, had he not died, might have made the second wave of 80's 3D a much more memorable era. As it was, he was able to sell the technology to producers in Taiwan, which is why we'll be enjoying both REVENGE OF THE SHOGUN WOMEN and DYNASTY in the near future. I've posted earlier that these two films really do make better use of the pop-out, in-your-face aspects of 3D than most others before or after (regardless of what you might think of the story-telling or general filmmaking), and presumably that's down to the technology inside Findlay's cameras.
Hopefully Mike Ballew's essay goes into an appropriate amount of detail regarding Findlay's career, his untimely death (which effectively resulted in Super 3D dying on the vine) and the technological secrets that would have made it so advantageous. For those who can't wait, a highly informative oral history of Findlay's final year of existence was put together by the Rialto Report site, a phenomenal reference site for the sordid and colourful world of vintage pornography. Be warned, poking around here could lead you down some very deep but impeccably researched and highly entertaining rabbit holes.

Just prior to this message going out, I asked on Kickstarter if all the great DYNASTY promo materials they've been using in their updates might be included as a gallery on the disc, and Furmanek replied that there would be one, so clearly this is how they'll do it.
I am pleased to announce this very special bonus extra for our Comptatible 3-D Blu-ray release of Dynasty.
Mike Ballew is a highly-acclaimed 3-D expert. His outstanding contributions and scholarly input have been featured on a number of our recent releases, including 3-D Rarities II and Taza, Son of Cochise. I've been studying stereoscopic cinema since the 1970's and never fail to learn something new and fascinating whenever Mr. Ballew contributes to a project.
Very little is known about the Super Touch 3-D lens system used to photography Dynasty. I've asked Mr. Ballew if he would contribute a short essay for the Blu-ray and here is his response:
"Folks who witnessed Dynasty in theaters remember the experience practically forever. The flick is an ambitious period action spectacle, but 3-D is what sears the memory. Feet, fists, blades of every kind-- if it could smash you or cut you in real life, you will find it flying right at your face in Dynasty. One does not simply forget that kind of violent trauma!
Dynasty was the second theatrical feature made using Michael Findlay's quirky but remarkable Super Touch 3-D system. It will be my privilege to contribute a brief but informative audio essay to the upcoming Blu-ray release of Dynasty, where I'll share the story of Super Touch and its later iteration, Optimax III. By whatever name we call it, the system left a lasting mark on 3-D film history. I can't wait to tell you all about it."
Mr. Ballew's audio essay will be supplemented visually with the many cool posters, lobbycards and advertisements that you've seen posted in the various updates throughout this campaign.
I know that you're going to thoroughly enjoy this excellent contribution from Mike Ballew!

I'll get to it eventually. I should watch both of those and the Ice Age movies on the next 100-degree day.

Would side by side 3D on a streaming system be as good as Blu-ray 3D?
Like I watched a few minutes of Frozen 2 streaming and did the side by side option on tv and looked decent, like any Blu-ray. But am I missing something from physical disc, no compression, etc.?

Also, streaming is much more compressed than Blu-ray, so you lose a little image quality there as well.
In theory, the 3D effect itself should be comparable assuming that the parallax offset is encoded the same.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
You lose half the image resolution. Blu-ray 3D flashes two independent 1080p frames one after the other - left, right, left, right, etc. Side-by-side 3D combines both left and right eye views into a single 1080p frame at 960x1080 resolution each.

In the case of passive 1080p 3D on a 4k display you get both eyes at 1080p. I wonder if there are any streaming titles that would be 4k with 2 side by side. In essence mimicking the 2 passive 1080p images.

Gotcha. So physical way to go. I mean Frozen 2 looked pretty good, but then again don’t have disc yet to compare. Thanks guys.

No one streams 3D in 4k. The source is encoded as 1080p side-by-side 3D.

I recognize there actually is no 4K 3D. I only wondered if there might be that concept via alternative side by side steams (ie YouTube or other peer sites posting content) or maybe via VUDU or someone that may have higher res streams.

I watched Independence Day Resurgence recently and it has to be the least 3D 3D blu I own, I had to check that I even had 3D turned on a few times just to make sure it wasn't off entirely.
Also watched Stewardess, lots of pop out there, also lots of out of focus and naked 70's people (1970's).

Should have both Onward and Frozen II
on Sat. Looking forward. Both great presentation reviews and I haven’t seen either, yes, I know F2 got less then stellar reviews, though not bad by long shot...

Hope you like Frozen II. I saw it for the first time this past weekend and was really disappointed. It had some nice visuals, but I thought the story was on the same level as Disney's direct-to-video sequels of the 90's. No thanks. Haven't seen Onward yet.

I’m not expecting much from F2, but I did love the African sounding music, which I believe started first one which I thought was odd, but liked. So this has promise, plus the 3D got better reviews than 1st which I didn’t think was great. Will give another go though. Is 2 just a direct continuation of sorts?

Yeah, sites set low, so probably for best. Who knows? I will probably watch Onwards first since that’s original and never saw. F2 some other time...
