Mine did also- but it sounds like it's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so I should watch the others in order before this one.

It is, but it's also a very good stand alone movie. Some references to the first Avengers and Civil War movies, but that's pretty much it. You wouldn't really be lost without seeing them.

You really haven’t seen any MCU movies?

I've seen them all up to Age of Ultron (and have bought them all) but have a new TV and sound system now so want to start over on it. I watched them in the wrong order first time around too (sticking with characters- Iron Man 1 2 and 3 followed by Captain America 1 and 2, etc.)

Spider-Man: Homecoming 3D seems to be in limited supply out the gate. It's already sold out on Target and Best Buy is showing it's on backorder until November 21st (though you can still do in store pickup). I'm a little surprised Amazon is still showing it in stock.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

maybe this has been addressed already, but I have been holding off on getting F13 and NOES Blu-ray box sets because F13 #3 and NOES #6 were filmed in 3D and were released in 3D on DVD, but the Blu-ray versions in the box set do NOT have the 3D versions.

Does anyone know if there are plans to release these films in 3D? Perhaps they are available overseas?

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare is complicated. The movie was never entirely 3D. It was shot and projected in 2D for the majority of its length, and only switched to 3D during the big climax at the end. An on-screen prompt signaled viewers to put on their 3D glasses, and then take them off again afterwards. The only way to accomplish that was to project the scene in anaglyph 3D, the kind with the crappy red/blue cardboard glasses.

You could certainly reproduce that at home with the same lousy anaglyph 3D, but if you were expecting it to be modern full-color, frame-packed 3D, it's just not practical to encode the entire movie in 3D and require viewers to wear glasses for the duration just for the benefit of one scene at the end.

If correctly encoded, there would be no difference between the left-eye signal and the right-eye signal for the 2D majority of the film running time, so a viewer could watch such a 3D encode of 2D content without glasses and it would appear identical to any glasses-free 2D movie. That 2D majority of the movie ought to be a jiff to encode, as well. Is there something I'm missing?

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I went to Target today for the Stranger Things Blu-ray set and saw tons and tons of Spiderman Homecoming all over the place - Blu-rays, DVDs, Target exclusive and 4K. I decided to inquire about the 3D to someone stocking in media and was told they didn't get any copies of the 3D. Actually, she told me it wasn't released at all in 3D. I checked the Best Buy stores in my vicinity. The website shows it available at all of those locations. I didn't ever pre-order it, as I was hoping for a cheaper price, but I'm starting to worry about its long-term availability. I'm sure I could always import ...

Deep Discount has Spider-Man 3D for $22.99 plus the 15% discount at the moment (code: WITCHES). Obviously you'd need to order a bit more to get free shipping, but $19.54 isn't too bad. I paired it with the pre-order of War of the Planet of the Apes 3D for the same price and free shipping.

Maybe they're out, but I just searched deep discount for both titles and got nothing to show up.

I did the same thing. I was in Best Buy today just after opening and noticed they actually had quite a few copies of the 3D in stock.

Says backordered for Spidey, but it said the same thing when I ordered mine yesterday. Hopefully it eventually ships.

Had a similar conversation with a a worker at Target about Homecoming, who told me Target doesn't get 3D anymore. I wondered about Rogue One which was a Target exclusive 3D.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I ordered it from Target at least, but I've been commenting on their handling of 3D ever since it first started, since I buy most of my regular stuff there and I often get those survey invites on the receipt. Many times they had the 3D edition priced MUCH higher (sometimes 2 times as much) than the 2D version- I kept calling them out on this and telling them to stop sabotaging 3D! Other times they had very few or no copies at all. Seems like they've had it in for 3D since the beginning, though of course that's partly the studios' fault for making it separate in the first place.

Funny thing though is The Avengers sold out pretty quickly at the Targets around here- it was $19.99 and included an exclusive bonus disc. When I had to go to several different stores just to GET one, and there they told me it had been "selling like hot cakes", I thought that meant 3D was a success.

My Target told me the same thing. He said he never sees 3D anymore and to get it from the website on preorder if I want it from Target.

When the employee mentioned Target not carrying any 3D, I replied "no worries" I will get it from another ..." and I didn't finish before they said "another store"... So they didn't suggest Target online... Which at that point I didn't think about either...

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

Watched Spider-Man: Homecoming 3D last night. While there was lots of added depth, there weren't any pop-out effects that I recall, but there sure was a lot of crosstalk/ghosting all throughout the film. In fact, this disc may have the most crosstalk I've ever seen. I can tweak the parallax on my player, but no matter how I set it the crosstalk never went completely away. And sadly, Sony didn't give it the Dolby Atmos treatment (or even 7.1 channels); we have to settle for a 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack. At least we got a slip cover, although it's not a lenticular sheet like older 3D releases from Sony. My how times have changed.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

We finally had a chance to watch Spider-Man: Homecoming 3D last night and I wasn't too impressed. The 3D was kinda all over the place. Some were really good (like the ferry scene and the Washington Monument scene) and others were pretty bad. The action night scenes were nearly unwatchable at times and made me feel nauseous at one point where I had to take my glasses off for a few minutes. I think I'll be sticking with the 2D version on repeat viewings.
