I’d forgotten F9 had a 3D option. I really loathe that movie (and the next one even more) but wouldn’t mind seeing it in 3D. Maybe down the road. Glad to see the others, though, and also glad they’re releasing these at a decent clip.

Yep, 16 titles in about a year (first batch was released May 23, 2024, this 5th batch is coming out May 28, 2025).

Got em:

Not having Friday the 13th be their 13th release shows very poor planning though.

Looks like Vudu/FAH has pulled many 3D titles for sale. If you own it they're still there. But their janky site doesn't allow you to search for them once they've been pulled. You'll have to scroll/filter your library. I made a list to easily find them.
I never got around to getting Wicked. Was waiting in hope that Turbine would get it.

My Turbine order finally arrived last week. It went to the main USPS distribution center in the state, then went to a town about 30 miles south of me (not supposed to do that...). It sat there all weekend before finally making it back to the distribution center then my local PO.

Next batch of 3D Titles from Turbine are up:

Like some other folks here, I went all in a couple months back and just ordered all the titles I didn’t have yet (pricey!). I’ve seen all three of these on DVDs from the library. PUSS IN BOOTS: LAST WISH was pretty decent, TROLLS: BAND TOGETHER was passable, and FAST X was insultingly stupid, but all three certainly have many sequences that might be worth skimming to in 3D down the road,

Bundle set:

Despite seeing it on DVD from the local library and finding it a rather unrewarding Marvel movie (and this despite liking virtually all of them, even the other ones that garnered mixed reactions), I nonetheless ordered the Japanese 3D combo of CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD largely because I have all the others, and was pleased to see this little promo sheet tucked inside:

Could you confirm whether the aspect ratio of the 3D edition is constant 2.35:1 or variable ratio? Thanks.

I assume you’re referring to BRAVE NEW WORLD? Haven’t watched that in 3D yet and I’m not in any rush. As mentioned I’ve only seen the DVD from the library. I don’t recall any aspect ration variation on that but I also might not have been paying close attention as the movie wasn’t doing much for me. Are there specific scenes where the ratio noticeably changes? That might make it easier to pinpoint if I pop in the disc. Otherwise I probably won’t be loading up for a while.

The DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, and general streaming versions are 2.35:1 constant height, but the movie played in IMAX theaters with a variable aspect ratio and that version is available on Disney+. Just hoping to confirm the 3D version because I track this stuff, but don't plan on buying it myself.

Wikipedia claims "aspect ratio opening up to 1.90:1 for 30 minutes." I've just cued up the movie on Disney+ and hit the fast-forward button. Looks like the first open-matte scene is pretty early at about 3:30.

Have there been any Marvel films that had variable or expanded aspect ratio on physical media?

It's actually very common for Disney to release Marvel movies in VAR on 3D Blu-ray even when the regular Blu-ray and 4K are constant 2.35:1.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (3D)
Black Panther (3D)
Black Widow (3D)
Captain America: Civil War (3D)
Captain Marvel (3D)
Doctor Strange (3D)
Guardians of the Galaxy (3D)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (3D)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Blu-ray, 3D, and 4K UHD)
Thor: Ragnarok (3D)

However, they're not consistent about it. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Eternals are constant 2.35:1 even in 3D. (All had VAR IMAX releases theatrically.)

Just gave BRAVE NEW WORLD a run-through, mostly on fast-forward save for some of the action scenes, and can confirm that it’s constant 2.35:1 throughout. I figured maybe the action sequences would open up, but not on this one.

Thanks, that's helpful.

When I checked the version on Disney+, the opening scene was 2.35:1, but the movie title screen at about 3 min. 30 sec. and the action scene for the next several minutes after that were opened up to 1.90:1.

That's interesting. Why do you think they do it on the 3D disc only? To give it a bigger "canvas" for the 3D effects?

I suppose that's the logic behind it. But as I said, they're not consistent about it.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I suppose the next test will be THUNDERBOLTS in September and presumably FANTASTIC FOUR some time after that. Were either of those variable aspect ratio in theaters?

I always want to see Marvel shows in 3D on the big screen, but the cost of these Japanese Blu-rays always makes me skip it as I really can’t justify spending twenty-ish bucks only to turn around and import the 3D set at those insane prices. I really wish Turbine in Germany would start licensing the Marvel stuff, but then they’d just give you the 3D disc and no supplements as usual. At least the Japanese sets include a 2D disc (with the bonus features, such as they are these days), and the 4K for those so equipped.

According to:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...leased_in_IMAX

Thunderbolts* - Filmed entirely with IMAX-certified digital cameras with aspect ratio opening up to 1.90:1 for 39 minutes.
Fantastic Four: First Steps - Filmed almost entirely with IMAX-certified digital cameras with aspect ratio opened up to 1.90:1 for the entire film. Select scenes also opened up to 1.43:1 in IMAX GT Laser venues.

Might be awhile until I can order from Turbine again…

New shipping costs seem to be about the same price as the discs themselves.

Not a lot of news, so a reminder that Hamilton Book has deals on 3D Blu-rays.

You can see most of them here:
https://www.hamiltonbook.com/blu-ray...&pf%5B20%5D=20

However, not all are marked as being 3D Blu-rays, so a few other they have:

WARCRAFT: The Beginning - $4.95
https://www.hamiltonbook.com/warcraf...inning-blu-ray

THUNDER AND THE HOUSE OF MAGIC - $4.95
https://www.hamiltonbook.com/thunder...magic-blu-ray/

SECTOR 7 - $4.95
https://www.hamiltonbook.com/sector-7-blu-ray

DRAGONFLY SQUADRON - $7.95

This is up at Amazon Japan now, scheduled for Dec. 10. Presumably it will be at YesAsia somewhere along the way.

Saw it in 2D IMAX for the premier and than later in 3D IMAX. 3D was an even better experience.
