The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread

Re: The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread
If you already redeemed a Blu ray code that redeemed in SD. Call Vudu and they will require you to take a picture of the UV code and BD box and they will upgrade it to HDX

I'm not trying to be an ass but shouldn't this thread be in StreamingTalk? I couldn't find it and had to search by my user posts.
Technically you can have SD UV it sucks but you can have it.

Re: The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread
Thanks for posting this. I had 3 movies that redeemed in SD (Hanna, Paul, and Adjustment Bureau). Sent an email to Vudu customer service (with a pic of the Blu cases and UV code slips). And they upgraded all three movies to HDX. Awesome.

Re: The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread

But seriously tonight will be my first attempt to try "Disc to Digital" from home. I have a $30 credit with Vudu so I'm gonna look and see what old Dvd's I have lying around.

I even downloaded the file to my phone. Did nothing. Still won't play.
What am I doing wrong?

I don't know what else you can try. Seems weird that you're having a problem with both Flixster and CinemaNow. Is that happening with other movies too, or do you only have Skyfall?
Maybe you can contact Flixster or CinemaNow customer service. I haven't dealt with either of them. But when I needed help, Vudu customer service has been awesome.

Re: The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread
It's happening with all of the movies I've obtained by redeeming UV codes. When I signed up for Flixter, they gave me a free copy of Austin Powers. That one plays fine through both apps. I have not tried to purchase any movies directly from either service, but I suspect those would probably work. But the UV titles definitely don't.

Re: The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread
OK, so I downloaded CinemaNow to my phone and linked my UV account. The movies in my library show up, but when I attempt to play Skyfall, I get the message: "You have HD playback rights to this title, but it is currently unavailable for playback in HD on this device. Do you want to watch in standard definition instead?" (I do have an HD phone.) Then, when I accept that, I get a loading icon for a few seconds before it just stops and returns to the previous screen.
I even downloaded the file to my phone. Did nothing. Still won't play.

Re: The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread
Even though it's VUDU, there's a few UV codes that work through it, so this is somewhat relevant.
An actual physical break-in to steal hard drives. This would have to be someone that works there, previously worked there, or knows someone that works/worked there. Makes me think they may have a little more info on decrypting any data.
While they say the full credit card numbers weren't stored on the drives, they don't mention that it may be possible to link what Mr. Burglar has with the rest of the info stored elsewhere.
We want to let you know that there was a break-in at the VUDU offices on March 24, 2013, and a number of items were stolen, including hard drives.
Our investigation thus far indicates that these hard drives contained customer information, including names, email addresses, postal addresses, phone numbers, account activity, dates of birth and the last four digits of some credit card numbers. It's important to note that the drives did NOT contain full credit card numbers, as we do not store that information. Additionally, please note if you have never set a password on the VUDU site and have only logged in through another site, your password was not on the hard drives.
While the stolen hard drives included VUDU account passwords, those passwords were encrypted. We believe it would be difficult to break the password encryption, but we can't rule out that possibility given the circumstances of this theft. So we think it's best to be proactive and ask that you be proactive as well.
SECURITY PRECAUTIONS:
If you had a password set on the VUDU site, we have taken the precaution of expiring and resetting that password. To create a new password, go to www.vudu.com. Click the "Sign In" button at the top of the page. Enter your current username and current password when prompted, then follow the instructions to reset your password securely. Also, if you use your expired VUDU password on any other sites, we strongly recommend that you change it on those sites as well.
As always, remember that VUDU will never ask you for personal or account information in an e-mail. Please use caution if you receive any emails or phone calls from anyone asking for personal information or directing you to a web site where you are asked to provide personal information.
As an added precaution, we are arranging to have AllClear ID protect your identity for one year at no cost to you. We have FAQs on our web site (vudu.com/passwordreset) to answer questions on the incident and to more fully describe how to use the AllClear ID service. We have reported this incident to law enforcement and are cooperating fully with their investigation. We want you to know that we take this matter very seriously, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Thank you,
Prasanna Ganesan
Chief Technology Officer, VUDU

Re: The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread
If Vudu did some sort of custom encryption job, I'd have zero faith in it. Other places mention the type of encryption they use, to give the customers some faith. It'd be nice if they gave us something. Of course if it was poor security, they wouldn't want to admit anything that could be used against them in a class action suit.
The fact that they got all the accounts should make people uneasy with the rest of the information on the hard drive, not limited to user account.
Hopefully whoever stole it won't release some of the info which makes Vudu go, "Well, what we said earlier about them not having access to <blah> was wrong. Sorry about that. You're screwed now."

The single releases of the JP films offer up HD versions. I just logged into my Vudu account (with my NEW password!) and The Lost World shows "HDX".

Yeah, I'm still eligible for the protection, so I might as well take it and change passwords while I'm at it. I never used a credit card with vudu, so it's just the password I need to be concerned with.

For those of you that do "in-home" disc to digital with Vudu........

Quoting myself from another post:
I have converted about 15 DVD's and just so you know I tried converting Fight Club DVD the Special Edition one that looks like a gift wrapped box and it didn't recognize the disc. So for shits and giggles I inserted Disc 2 Supplents and presto it worked!!!!!!

Re: The Ultraviolet (UV) Thread
Downloaded the Flixster app on my iPad, and it gave me a free ultraviolet copy of Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery. It's only SD. But it works on CinemaNow and Vudu.
