Re: Pee-wee's Big Adventure - 10/4/2011
I watched the original theatrical print of this back in the fall at the Toronto Tim Burton 24 hour movie marathon...the print really didn't hold up well at all. (It was still better than the terrible DVD print)
Hopefully they really spent a lot of time cleaning this up, and it's not just a quick cash in to tie in with the Broadway special release around the same time. (Which just dropped to $15.99 this evening from $20+ btw)

Agreed! I'm really looking forward to this one, once it hits $9.99 of course. It's sad how far Tim Burton has fallen.

Well, I certainly want to yawn every time I see it. An utterly lifeless, dreary movie. Not too get too far off-topic, but Burton hasn't made a decent live-action film since Sleepy Hollow, which itself followed the excruciatingly unfunny Mars Attacks!. In fact, he's made several complete turkeys. Sweeney Todd is the uninspiring best of a desultory lot.

I love Mars Attacks!, I never understood the hate for that movie.

I appreciated what he was attempting to do with Mars Attacks!, and as you mention it did have an effectively B-movie/pulp visual style. Unfortunately, the script just wasn't funny, and without witty or memorable dialogue the (intentionally) unlikable stock types remained uninvolving, tiresome caricatures, as in Burn After Reading.
