I know, I was there and it makes sense as they had a camera rig there and had us sign waivers; what I'm saying is that the skydiving event takes place before Tron Legacy, film-universe timeline-wise.

The movie obviously takes place not only before Legacy, but after it as well.

Wonder why people are having trouble grasping that.

no one has trouble grasping that, but it primarily takes place after with a few glimpses to the time between tron and legacy.
the upcomming Tron evolution would be considered a bridge between the two films more than this is.

One thing I found interesting about the short is that
Spoiler:
reportedly, it concluded with Dillinger communicating with Dillinger Jr., and the two of them agreeing everything was going according to plan. Of all the things in the short, this would've been the most blatant foreshadowing of a sequel; an actual promise of something that was going to happen that had not happened yet. The fact that this scene is not present, assuming it did exist, may be telling in terms of Disney's reluctance to "promise" a sequel yet.

Re: TRON: LEGACY DVD/Blu Combo Pack >> 04/2011 (?)

I picked up Legacy today. I'll wait till release date to pick up the original Tron blu-ray since I'm not in a hurry to watch that one...

The blu-ray is Region A, B, and C.
And after watching a bunch of scenes of the DVD, the aspect ratios shift:
- 2.35:1 during the quiet scenes
- 1.78:1 during action scenes

There is reportedly another short hidden on the disc that contains that scene.

Two and a half weeks in advance? I thought they usually get stock at the earliest a week before release?

This trend really, really needs to die.

Do two movies really form a trend?

Either way, the framing on the 1.78 scenes looks utterly abysmal

Three, technically.

This, TDK and TF2.

I don't really have much of a problem with it.

The next Mission: Impossible is being shot with both 35mm and IMAX cameras.

The next Batman will be done similar to The Dark Knight as well.

Most don't take advantage, but there's the rare blockbusters that do.

To clarify, only the Wal-Mart exclusive "Big Screen Edition" of Transformers: RotF has alternating aspect ratios. The standard retail release is 2.35:1 throughout.

I don't really have much of a problem with it.
You don't have a 2.35:1 screen, I'm assuming.

Like 99% of the film-watching public, no.

But I'm familiar with your situation and I can understand the frustration in not having consistency in ratios.

I haven't seen Tron yet, but both Dark Knight and Transformers look fine when the 16:9 portions are cropped down to 2.35:1. Unfortunately, this will only work for those viewers who use anamorphic lenses, or at least have some sort of electronic blanking that can mask the top and bottom of the picture. Those who use the "zoom" projection method on a 2.35:1 screen will find portions of the movie projected onto the wall above and below their screens, which is incredibly distracting.

Re: TRON: LEGACY DVD/Blu Combo Pack >> 04/2011 (?)

I really wish there were a 4 disc set that didn't have the 3D blu-ray.

I know I won't get a 3DTV for the longest time, so I have no use for a 3D blu-ray.

I really don't know which version I'll get.

The five disc set is nice since it has the original, which is pivotal for me. Having a digital copy is important to me, yet a dvd isn't, and of course, they don't have a blu-ray/digital copy only set, so I couldn't get the blu-ray of each version separately! The four disc set looks pretty cool, and I really like that cover, but the five-disc is nice also. I'm also considering that disc packaging, I'm kind of a sucker for displayable cases, but I don't know, I really want to see what the blu-ray packages look like before I make a decision. If the five-disc set has a really nice package put together, that'll probably be the one I'll pick up.

Ideally, I'd wish they had a 3-disc set containing the blu-ray versions of each film, and a digital copy.

Ah well.

according to the latest issue of Sound + Vision, the audio has been remixed by the director:

"...made more than 100 fixes to the mix and added over a dozen brand-new elements."

Just buy the normal Original and Remake versions. Or buy the 5 disc set and sell the 3D Disc which will net you an easy $15-$20 for those that don't want the other crap (like me; but I already have the 5 Disc coming to me).

Disney made enough SKUs for this film already.

Too bad the sound didn't win an Academy Award - it was great!
I really liked the usage of sound effects from the old TRON videogames. It was also fun hearing the Pac-Man and Donkey Kong sounds in the arcade.

I can't wait until April 5th!

I only heard the film in 5.1 at the theater, so I'm very anxious to hear this in the new 7.1 remix.

That's what I'm hoping to do. I'll probably be looking to unload the DVD and Digital Copy, too.
