Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced The Social Network for Blu-ray release on January 11, 2011. This movie about the creation of Facebook, directed by David Fincher, has earned wide critical acclaim and has just earned six Golden Globe nominations, including Best Drama. Enthusiasts who complained that this movie was not getting a special release by Criterion need not worry, as this BD will come in a 2-disc edition, with over three hours of bonus content.

best movie of the year as far as i'm concerned...can't wait to check out that wealth of extras.

I'm kind of surprised there won't be a collector's edition that would include the soundtrack on Blu Ray. It sounds just incredible.

I'm surprised 1/11 is the actual release date. Up until the official announcement I had written it off as a rumor since we were so close to the new year.

I'm also surprised/disappointed that the extras don't feature a lossless version of the Reznor/Ross score, but I'll still definitely get it. Ranks right up there along with Inception as one of the best films of 2010.

I actually like the cover. The critic blurbs are the focus of the cover which if they have to be there at all it should be featured. Also, this was announced the same day as Time announces Zuckerberg as Man of the Year --which must have been influenced by the movie.

I kind of agree. For some reason, the presence and prominence of the quotes fits with the way the film's theatrical release was marketed.

Missed this in theaters, but I've heard enough praise to blind buy. Although, last time I did that with Fincher was Benjamin Button, and that one bored me to tears. I think this'll be different, though.

I liked Button, but this is far superior. Definitely one of Fincher's best.

I do hope Sony surprises us and announces Panic Room for the same day.

It did close to $200 million worldwide so there's already a large group that should know this. But I guess you could be right. It just seems like they are trying too hard. The only thing they're missing is a profile pic of each reviewer

I liked this, but didn't think it was the masterpiece some others see in it. I'm looking forward to seeing it again to see if I like it more.

Only movie from this year besides Inception that I wanted to see again right away after seeing it in theaters.

I liked the movie, but I don't think it's something I'd care to re-watch more than maybe once. I'll rent it for the extras.

I know you're joking, but the quotes would be slightly cooler if they laid them out Facebook style as though they were a status update.

Is there any pics of it? I've seen the French slipcover but not the US version.

Is this worth a blind buy? I didn't get a chance to see it in theaters.
