This must have been Lucas' motivation for the Holiday Special.

I hate to sound blasphemous, but I don't really mind the little changes like the blinking ewoks and the expanded cityview of Mos Eisley. But when you add lines like Vader yelling while saving Luke or add scenes that completely screw up the entire view of the movies like where you see Jabba in the movie when he wasn't in the movie originally. That's where I draw the line. The one single good thing about the blu-rays is they added back the Force fanfare during the attack on the Death Star.

I admittedly didn't know much about this set. I was kind of a "maybe". I mean for one, I love 3D and I hear they are doing 3D, so why not just wait. Even then I was still thinking about it. Blinking Ewoks? Who cares, that's minor and is almost a cosmetic improvement (yeah I'm not a "purist").

But Darth Vader screaming while he kills the emperor? I look at that and think, Oh my God, how the **** is George Lucas so bloody rich? This guy is a terrible writer and director. The reason that scene was so cool is that Vader looked at his son and something finally snapped and he turned on his Master to save his son. The fact that he was silent, and the way the music is what was prominent in that scene is why it worked so well.

So here comes George thinking "heh heh, wouldn't it be cool if I tie in that NOOOO scream that he did in episode 6 with the scene in episode 3? That would be like so deep man it's like the movies are more connected!!" I mean my God he's got the creativity and brightness of an 8 year old boy. The totally ruins the scene. So my beef isn't with him adding new graphics to update the look, that I'm ok with. But when you **** with a scene like that. You make the movie worse. What he is doing is making them worse and worse every time he adds something stupid like this.

Agreed. I'm also looking forward to the deleted scenes the most. I've seen the movies enough in the last 30+ years to be bored with it by now.

On a side note, did anyone catch the figures that were released as a Commemorative set for the Blu Ray release? Pretty cool.

I think that's the point most of us are trying to make Teremei. I'm fine with most of the cosmetic changes like Wicket blinking, or even "opening up" Cloud City, but once Lucas starts changing the tone and pacing of the films with shit like the "noooooo," adding a dance number, stopping for Vader to call his shuttle or putting Hayden in a film he wasn't even born before is beyond ridiculous.

I'm one of the few that likes Jedi. Sure it's the weakest of the OT, but it's still a fun romp, but these changes are getting out of hand.

I'm with you on ROTJ. It's showing signs of fatigue to be sure, but it's still a great flick, and Luke, Vader and Palpatine in the throne room is just great. That audio change is just too much. I'll live with the 2004 DVDs and VHS and LD for the originals.

I swear, even if they had just run those LD transfers through a commercial grade upconvertor so those "bonus" DVDs were 16x9, I would have bought them and let it go at that.

Star Wars spawned that level of fandom, yes but it most certainly isn't the only one with fans who do those kinds of things.

Exactly, Lucas didn't lose me with the smaller effect changes (I wasn't even annoyed with the new Jawa Sandcrawler or Obiwans hutt or the backround to Cloud City). But once he started replacing ACTUAL ACTORS AND DIALOGUE that is when he went too far. Adding in Hayden in the ghost scene, the awful Jedi Rocks, and now the new NOOO scream is jarring to anyone who has seen the films as much as we have.

I have to laugh at the Pro-Lucas defenders who say that any person who hasnt seen the films wont be bothered by the new changes when they first watch them, so they don't understand why we are getting all crazy about them.

My response, "No shit! If I didn't know my wife was cheating on me, I would think she was faithful!" Ignorance is bliss!

Sometimes they do special Friday releases. XMen First Class is being released this Friday, for example.

Why are people only complaining about it now, though? the 97 special editions had Jedi rocks and added/removed lines of dialogue, as well as things like Vader getting his shuttle and all that.

People were complaining about it back in 97. The big deal was Han/Greedo scene, it overshadowed everything else as far as complaints go.

^ Oh yea, the '97 changes were a big source of consternation for a lot of fans. Now, we've reached the point of fatigue due to the cumulative effects of all the changes we've endured, and a lot of folks are just giving this one a pass.

I sometimes wonder if GL really changed the movies to fit his ever-changing "artistic vision" or if he just wanted to use new scenes/edits to push people into seeing the theatrical re-releases. Keep in mind back in 97 people had been without new Star Wars content for a long time and most fans seemed to want to see anything new that they could.

That and it was easier to shrug off because of two other reasons, one, it was still a chance to see it on the big screen and two it was the first and only time tweaks had been made.
