Yup, it really should have had the Holiday Special instead of the Star Warriors and Star Wars Tech snooze docs.
(I'm joking about the Holiday Special - awesome as it might have been to have that on there - but I'm surprised about the ommission of both From Star Wars to Jedi and the SLJ-hosted From Star Wars to Star Wars)

OK this may be nothing, but that press release says 6.1 DTS Surround, not DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1.

Normally I wouldn't even sweat it and I'd write it off as an oversight, but this is Star Wars, and there always seems to be some sort of "gotcha" when it's released.

Based on the running time, I would think disc 9 is a blu-ray disc. But will discs 7 and 8 be blu-ray discs or will they be DVDs?

Ever since the 2006 OOT Non-anamorphic insult DVD set, I never have any expectations from Lucasfilm. They talk a good PR game, but I have learned that it always underwhelming in the end.

The irony is I used to be a sheep for anything for SW about 10 years ago, but Lucas has put out so much crap (starting with the SE in 1997 and continuing with the PT) I don't know how anyone can expect anything great anymore coming from a galaxy far, far, away...

It's an insult to include documentaries made for the original films when the originals aren't included. "Here is some incredible model work but wait, I CGI'd that shit so you can't actually see it on this blu-ray set."

Great point.

Everything I wanted to know about is on the still un-detailed Disc 8. And if the stuff from the prequel DVDs isn't included, I'll be mad -- I enjoyed "The Beginning" and I never watched "Within a Minute."

Also, the inclusion of this extra and the description of it smell a little bitter to me:

Anatomy of a Dewback (1997, Color, Apx. 26 Minutes) – See how some of the special effects in Star Wars became even more special two decades later! George Lucas explains and demonstrates how his team transformed the original dewback creatures from immovable rubber puppets (in the original 1977 release) to seemingly living, breathing creatures for the Star Wars 1997 Special Edition update.

Blu-ray.com confirmed it's DTS HD MA.

I'll likely just get the Original Trilogy on release day and then wait and get the Prequel set later on. The Phantom Menace and parts of Clones are a chore to sit through. I think I can wait until a really good deal shows up for those.

I remember reading a story some years back about the SE dewback footage, and about how Lucas signed off on a really crappy looking version but the CG artist doing the actual work wasn't satisfied and worked afterhours for days/weeks to get it to look better. It's amazing how Lucas will call the originals "unfinished" works, but will allow half-assed CG work in his supposed "final" versions.

 If you know you'll get the prequels at some point, may as well get the whole kit and kaboodle so you get the three extras discs.

Really? I'm impressed if legit.

I got an "Unavailable/Reload" screen and just kept refreshing until I eventually got in.

Hard to know from the generic descriptions, but my guess is they'll be new mashups from existing recordings. Probably comparable to what's found on most of the James Bond DVDs.

It rocks. And I haven't been able to find my VHS copy in years, and still haven't gotten around to replacing it. The nicest thing about it is that Lucas is on camera saying things that completely contradict some of the whitewashing "visionary" nonsense that has come to dominate Star Wars docs since.

I agree. A short piece, sure; they've earned that kind of recognition through their charity work. But to be the most prominent new feature? I'll watch it and keep and open mind, but it better be damn amazing to justify that kind of attention.

Blu-ray Discs. The content may be in SD, but I cannot imagine them including DVDs with this.

I've heard terrific stuff about "The Beginning," and I can attest to "Within a Minute." It's so rewarding that I'll keep my Revenge of the Sith DVD for that alone.

I dig the Complete Saga box and its simplicity, but the other two? Yawn.

I would agree w/ that. I'd say the Saga Box set would be improved without the characters at all. I'm hoping it's similar in style to the Alien Saga Collection

I suppose it's possible the docs are in there, not sure why they wouldn't have included that in the descriptions though. But yeah, there's not much there otherwise (in terms of running time).

Edit: I can't knock the artwork, it's not what I'd prefer (looks like a book)... but it's creative and honestly, it's the least of my worries. It'd be awesome if it was similar in quality to the Alien Anthology, but I'm not expecting it.

here says that the complete saga cover is LENTICULAR!!

re: Star Wars

Honestly I don't know what else they can release as far as the making of the OT...Empire of Dreams covered it all, and then some. As far as the PT, I would've liked to see more "making of" material...similar to what Empire of Dreams did for the OT. So I guess the moral of the story is...hang on to your dvds!

Oh well, can't wait to finally see Star Wars on Blu-ray. Surprisingly, the one film I'm most looking forward to is Episode III.

What a disappointing release. I guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up though. I will likely end up buying just the original trilogy.

Not even close. There's tons of other making-of's from years past that cover stuff not even hinted at in Empire of Dreams. As noted in other posts, it also contradicts a lot of what Lucas says about the saga these days, so that's why it's left out (and why it's wanted so much).

Agreed, but it is lenticular and switches between Anakin and Luke, which is pretty clever. And I'm guessing that the other two covers are just stuffed into that outer box.

Cool artwork. It'd be cooler if those were ironpacks.
