Who knows but I am sure Disney already has t-shirts with it on it printed up to sell at their stores and parks.

It means nothing. It means everything. It means whatever you want it to mean.

That scene looks even more maclunkey than it previously did.

It just means the marketing team at Disney have created a cheap way to promote their brand and keep people talking until the new movie comes out. According to this post, it seems to be working quite well.:)

To my understanding the money is hardly enough for Disney to worry about so they kind of turn a blind eye.

Right, because it's not like they just launched a major Star Wars TV series today or anything...

Disney didn't do this change. There's no reason for it, since it could've potentially pissed off fans and George Lucas alike. On the other hand, George Lucas sneaking in some last minute changes before selling off his studio makes perfect sense.

Apparently Sebulba in TPM said "maclunkey" which means "This'll be the end of you" or something.

The scene in question.

The discs released in September were the exact same disc masters as the old Fox discs. They even still have the Fox FBI warning.

Nothing new.....
I bought this movie, along with Empire, Jedi and the prequels. It is the first time being released under Disney. The packaging is fantastic. Epic even. They even put cool pics on the discs as well. Unfortunately the material on the disc are the same as before, right down to the FBI warning [FOX] and the menus. Really Mouse house??? I know the Fox releases were excellent, but come on......
There's a lot of discussion on the blu-ray.com forum about the Disney+ versions. Aside from the Greedo change, it looks like these are the 4K Lowry remasters done in 2012. They're available in UHD with HDR on the service.

A screenshot comparison:
Luke - Frame Comparison - Screenshot Comparison made easy

Also, people are saying the image looks comparable to this Reliance MediaWorks Image Processing Demo Reel from a few years ago. check out the clips at 0:12, 0:43, 0:58, 1:24 and a few shots in the ending montage at 1:50 .

No. The new bds are just the old bds repackaged. The transfers on Disney+ are the 4k scans allegedly done for the 3d versions that never happened. Other than the Greedo scene, there are other minor tweaks. The color grading is also worlds better than the garbage dvds/bds, even if they're still not quite right in some spots.

Edit: Another major piece of evidence that these are new scans (not that anyone's doubting this fact) is that the reel in RotJ that was scanned out of focus in the DVDs and bds looks correct now.

Why can't we just go back to the original version?

Because George Lucas wanted these changes, and Lucasfilm/Disney isn't going to piss off George Lucas, since there's still a lot of fans that revere him as the creator of Star Wars.

I think putting the originals as a "bonus" on a Blu-ray box set is still likely, but for watching on TV, online purchase, or Disney+, you're going to get his altered versions.

Regarding the new sky: I read that the Lowry 4K restoration was done in anticipation of the 3D re-releases Lucas was planning for each film. What if the new sky is footage that exists in 3D? Like, they were looking at the work to make that scene 3D, realized that they had already cut out and replaced the sky once before, so were like, "screw it, we'll just replace the sky again."

From the original Rodian, it translates as: "Suck it, fanboys! LOL!!!"

The Greedo edit is getting attention because it's so odd. It literally makes no sense, unlike the reason Lucas changed the scene in the first place (because he wanted Han to appear less cold-blooded).

It makes sense in that the edit has always been terrible and with every new version there's been an attempt to make it less terrible. I'm talking about the execution of the edit itself, not the content, which will always be terrible.

You can tell that Han blowing Greedo away drives George crazy the way he keeps tinkering with the scene. rotfl

The Han Shot First scene is annoying, but the worst change he made to the OT was to have Vader bellow out "nooooooooo" when he throws the Emperor down the shaft. The silence was so perfect in the original, I can't watch the new version because it basically ruins the scene.

Agreed. I'll endure a hundred maclunkeys if they would just remove that.
