Re: Star Wars
I am one of the few hold-outs that still has not picked up any of the Star Wars Trilogy releases since the DVD releases that carried the non-anamorphic versions of the OOT.
Since I could eventually get better versions of those than Lucas put out, I sold those for a large profit awhile back. I won't buy any versions without the OOT included. I can live without the new versions since they get on my nerves watching them with all the changes. They make watching them unenjoyable for me so I would just rather skip them all together. Actually the only Star Wars movie I own that is legit is Rogue One and it is the 3D version...and I no longer have my 3D projector and 3D appears to be dead. Fuck Star Wars at this point. |
Re: Star Wars
Hell I only have one officially released version of the Original Trilogy. I have the 2004 DVD set which I got as a birthday gift the year it came out. I still wished that had the unaltered trilogy, but seeing as it was a gift I was still happy to get it. Prior to that I watched the trilogy off a VHS tape that my mom had recorded off of USA I think in the early nineties. We didn’t ever really get very many officially released tapes. I refused to buy the Blu-ray set when there was once more a number of changes made and I’ve held to that. I’ve been tempted to just get them a couple times when they’ve been cheap but haven’t. So generally that DVD set is what I still watch unless it’s airing on tv. |
Re: Star Wars
These comments by Kennedy are unclear, and more importantly, they're old. This was said when the distribution rights were... complicated and now that Disney owns Fox, this is resolved.
It would be insane to think Disney would be stupid enough to leave these dollars on the table. I would LOVE to see a set that includes all of the major cuts of the OTs. OT, '97, '04 and '10. |
Re: Star Wars
Disney can't even get their own produced films right on home video releases so why does anyone expect them to start with Star Wars?

Re: Star Wars
I also thought Rogue One was a little dark in 3D, but still watchable. The Force Awakens however looks fantastic.

What reason do you have to doubt UHD versions of the OT? A 4K version of A New Hope has been in the works since at least 2016:

And I’ll have 70mm film prints of them by then- maybe. |

Movie theaters had 4k digital projectors in 2002?

Re: Star Wars
I've never been on the "OOT or bust!" bandwagon but I reluctantly bought the BDs (via sale + gift cards) and watched them once. At this point, I've seen the movies enough that I'm good with what I have UNLESS they do release the OOT. Then I might be interested to revisit the films of my youth.

Re: Star Wars
This thread caused me to watch these two videos over the weekend and it really shows that I have a good reason for not buying the new versions. There are just so many necessary and obnoxious changes that it makes the movie unwatchable for me. These videos are some of the best comparisons videos I have ever seen.

Re: Star Wars
The documentary Empire of Dreams is available on Amazon to purchase, or free to stream for Prime members:
It's SD only, so it seems there isn't an HD version available. |
Re: Star Wars
With it's launch on Disney+ today, there has been another change to the infamous Han Shot First scene. Now Greedo says "Maclunkey" First.
I think we can all agree that this was a much needed change. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...disney-1254141 'Star Wars' Fans Confused by Greedo's Added Dialogue on Disney+The argument among fans over who shot first, Han or Greedo, had another wrench thrown into the machinery Tuesday with the launch of Disney+. The streaming service features a full library of Star Wars films and shows, which obviously includes the original trilogy. And it is in that version of A New Hope where fans are having to stop the film and play it back a bit to make sure they heard what they think they heard. or some reason, in the Disney+ version of the 1977 classic that would launch the Star Wars empire, Greedo has an extra line in the scene where he confronts Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in the Cantina. Right before they open fire (Han killed Greedo in cold blood in the 1977 film, but George Lucas changed it for the 1997 special edition to make it appear that Greedo fired first) the bounty hunter says what sounds like "Maclunkey." No one seems to know what it means, but fans, including Patton Oswalt, were having some fun with it. "Looks like the seed money that Maclunkey Toilet Pucks™️ gave to Disney+ is really paying off. #maclunkey," the comic-actor tweeted. Even Stephen King got in on the fun. "#Maclunkey Just because it’s so weirdly funny," he said via Twitter. |

I see a few vendors on eBay are selling the "Despecialized" trilogy on Blu-ray. You have to wonder how long they can continue to sell these obviously unlicensed versions.

Re: Star Wars
I thought Lucasfilm outright stated that there would be no more changes to the original six films.

https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood...star-wars-edit Lucasfilm confirmed to Vanity Fair this was a change creator George Lucas made even before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012. |

"MACLUNKEY" is the new "covfefe"?
