Same goes for the alien set. I wasn't going to spend $80-$100 when the set first came out since I knew i'll be watching mostly the first 2 movies and the bonus material. But since that dipped to around $30. It was an easy purchase.

re: Star Wars
Take this for what it's worth, but a friend of a friend who works at Lowry Digital said that after finishing the Indiana Jones 4K restoration, they are now working on a "new Star Wars 4K restoration"

re: Star Wars
It's probably in preparation for 3D releases (and then new BDs to follow, of course).

re: Star Wars
I hated to bring back this thread but wanted to see if anyone with both the DVD and BR sets could answer this or at least have a good guess.
While looking for the SW: Clone Wars sets on Amazon I noticed something that caught my eye on the orinials released in DVD format....high prices for the 1997 and 2004 releases. Even the The Phantom Menance 2-Disc WS Eddition new comes in at $68.00 now. The 1977 LE WS New Hope is at $99.00!!. the 1977 Trilogy Set is at a whopping $319.00! I haven't got the new BR version but thought about once-in-awhile. I have the Phanton Menance and Revenge of the Sith on DVD WS and even have the 2004 4-Disc Trilogy Set (new showing at $190.00). Wasn't there much discussion about not just the PQ but certain scenes and CGI added to the newer releases that caused some SW fans to voice some concern? i wasn't sure why the commanding high prices for the older DVD versions over the BR, just didn't make much sense unless I was missing something. Thanks for the input and I guess I'll lock away my DVD copies now. |
re: Star Wars
those versions have a second disc with the original films in them. although they are not anamorphic (SP) they are the only ones out there on dvd so ...thats why

re: Star Wars

That said, it looks like all the DVD editions are out of print. So the rising prices could be because people want a DVD copy of these films instead of the Blu-ray, for whatever reason. Also, the LE DVDs of the original trilogy are currently still the only way to get the original unaltered versions of those films officially on DVD, so those are likely to command a higher price. |
re: Star Wars
Shows the high demand for an un-effed-with Original Trilogy.
|
re: Star Wars
Ohh I should sell my limited edition dvds then. I don't give a shit about star wars anymore

re: Star Wars
Has anyone caved on buying these Blurays that didn't get them when they first came out? I've still held off and don't plan to anytime soon.

Thanks for the input and I guess I'll lock away my DVD copies now. You wander on to it and go "WOW! THEY ARE SELLING FOR $250!!!!". See how that works? You're going off prices of stuff no one has likely ever purchased. Go to eBay and see the true value. While these DVDs have "retained" (i.e. might sell for their original sale prices, not exceeded) their value, they are certainly not going for as much as Amazon would like you to believe. Plus, "sealed" copies sometimes go for more simply because people like to collect them. The 4 disc 2004 set is going for about $50ish on eBay opened and complete. Don't judge the marketplace from Amazon third party sellers. You will be very disappointed. |

Want to by my $5 bill for $10? No, well, I'll list it anyway. People will think it's worth $10! |

I haven't bought them either. There'd have to be a spectacular sale price for me to even consider it.

re: Star Wars
No. We got the DVd's for my son when they were released and that's good enough. One day when he's moved out, if they have a BR set of the OOT I'd consider picking it up but these were never really huge favorites anyway. The best part was going the to theatrical rereleases with my son more than the movies themselves

re: Star Wars
Not really a SW fan but I won't deny that SW and ESB are damn fine movies. ROTJ has it's issues but it's alright. I'll buy something SW related when those 3 come unaltered.

On that note, I watched SW and it looked breathtaking. Amazing pic quality. *or whatever you want to call it |

I did rent SW to see if the explosions had been fixed (they desaturate into black and white) and while the picture looked good- it wasn't good enough. I might buy a single of ESB if it appears, but the DVDs are good enough. And as an side, the scene where Vader throws the Emperor off the ledge works better when Vader says nothing. I saw the scene on cable last night- even cable knows which version is better. |

I do own the DVDs sets being discussed on this page with the bonus discs of the OOT. With upscaling, zooming, and a little imagination, they look just fine. |

I did. One of my relatives gave me a Best Buy gift card, so I paid about $22-23 dollars out of pocket for the Complete Saga.
