Re: Star Wars
^ Theres definitely a "final straw" feeling to the changes in these movies. One or two changes in and of themselves may not have been a deal breaker but all the little unneeded changes finally added up enough from this last release that I feel it's no longer the trilogy I grew up loving.
For me that final straw was Vader's "Nooo!" at the end of Jedi. Aside from being 100% unnecessary, it was a giant "fuck you" to fans after the backlash from Vader's "Noooo!" at the end of RotS. (I know, the technology just wasn't there in 1983 to have Vader say "No").
I realize I'm beating the bones of a long dead horse.

My brother was with me at FYE the other day and he picked up the Complete Saga set and asked me why I didn't have it and if I wanted it. I yelled out "NO, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" and took it from him and put it back on the shelf.

I don't think I've even seen the doctored Jedi. Have no recollection of Vader saying that. When does it come?

I am convinced that Lucas knew how much people hated the NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO in Revenge of The Sith so he added one to Jedi as a last middle finger to the fans.

Re: Star Wars
Ugh, that's just terrible. Doesn't even seem necessary. What did he want some emotional continuity with Vader? That is hideous...

Most of the changes are superflous and fine. Greedo shooting first? Eh. Crappy CG Jabba? Ok. Changing rock placement? Whatthefuckever. All the Cloud City changes are actually quite brilliant.
The straw that broke the camel's back for me is putting Hayden fucking Christiansen in Jedi. I can avoid the stink of the PT easy enough, but forcing part of that shitfest into the OT? Fucking terrible. Same goes for getting rid of the Nub Nub song ending so we can see CG shots of PT planets and people celebrating. Fuck that.

CG Jabba is pretty bad just because of how shitty it looks. It's unbelievable that they can't at least make it look better than it did when it was first added in 97.

It's a pointless scene that looks like shit and adds nothing to the movie since it's just a rehash of the coversation Han just had with Greedo.

Re: Star Wars
Yeah it really is a pretty dumb scene. That's the problem with a lot of the special edition scenes, they're mostly pointless additions that don't really add anything that's necessary to the story. Also I think in the case of the Jabba scene it kind of detracts from the impact of first seeing him in Return of the Jedi. I thought that was one of the cooler reveals personally when I first saw the trilogy as a kid after wondering who Jabba was. Granted I didn't have to wait long because I saw them on a marathon on USA back in the day the first time (my parents actually recorded them all on a VHS tape that I still have) but it was still a cool reveal.

If I recall right the Yub Nub song was replaced with the celebration scenes and Hayden was added to the Force ghost scene for the 2004 DVD release.

Yub Nub was taken out in 1997 when the celebrations were originally added. I have the soundtrack release from the special editions in 1997, and it doesn't have Yub Nub on it.

Re: Star Wars
The 1997 version had the replacement celebration shots. Then after the prequels they added one more additional celebration shot on Naboo (Weesa Free!) and added the Jedi Temple to the previous Coruscant shot.

I've never totally hated the new ending to ROTJ.
Before the sequels were announced, I always felt you could see them as a 9 movie set: you have the Holy Trilogy (eps 4-6, in their original theatrical format). For this three movie story, Yub Nub is the best ending - it's a group of friends and their allies having a backyard BBQ with illegal fireworks. The weird neighbors are singing a song in their native language that you don't understand, but you don't care because you're with your friends and everything is okay.
When there were six movies, the extended ending of ROTJ works better. It starts out with the backyard BBQ, but expands out to show how this pivotal moment has affected so many other people and why this Rebellion existed in the first place.
I would gladly own both versions on shelf, I just want the choice.

If I'm still alive in 2020, that's no guarantee it'll happen. I kind of wish they'd say yes or no. At least no would be an answer at this point.

Companies don't tend to announce releases until they have a firm release date in the short future. They're not going to announce a release that's potentially years out, especially if they don't even have the distribution rights at the moment.

Yes but with the changes to the end of Jedi it screws up the viewing of the entire saga as a whole. Why would old Obi wan be there with you Anakin? Don't give me that crap about Jedi Anakin dying when he was young cause "Anakin" came back when he killed Palpatine. So either both are young or both appear as they do when they died.

Second, it's been 20 years already(holy shitballs!) and I've been beaten into submission. I just don't care about this change anymore. There are far worse things that need to be rectified like Jabba, Anakin, ROTJ's ending, etc.
