I acquired the Despecialized Editions of IV-VI and watched them recently. Really reminds you how well those films work without anything added. I've got the DVD editions of the SEs but never bought the BDs because of even more changes. That "Nooooo!" in the throne room killed it for me. Runs the emotional impact of that moment. I'm hoping the originals will come out one day - they've got to, Disney loves money, they'll work out a deal - but until then these 720p/DTS 5.1 fan edits are a great alternative.

re: Star Wars
Harmy has a page on Facebook. Just look up Despecialized Star Wars. If you click "About" on that page, he clearly lays out how to make your own copy.

re: Star Wars
True, but if someone had a copy/could burn a copy, and was in the Christmas spirit to PM me, I would be happy to reward them for their effort. I'm too technologically challenged to do this on my own.

I know we are not suppose to discuss this stuff here and this is the last thing I will probably say on the subject. These are huge files. SW alone is 17gb. Since I don't have a BD burner and didn't want to downconvert them to DL DVD I ended up transferring them to my PS3 via the PS3 media server. Looks awesome uncompressed on a my 65" panny plasma.

Have you read through the dedicated posts on OT.com? There are AVCHD files available that fit perfectly on a DVD9...

re: Star Wars
Wow, that "despecialized" set is amazing. One thing I love about it is that they took it easy on the logos and other stuff on the back of each case. I don't like cover art that is dedicated to reproducing every little element that would be on an official case - even pointless things like UPC codes, the proof of purchase, and the copy protection logo.

re: Star Wars
My brother is studying law and currently working a case for a guy who's in serious legal trouble for torrenting a film. Not encouraging :p.

re: Star Wars
I so wish I could download the trilogy, but I am scared to death I could get in trouble for it.

re: Star Wars
Disney should just pay Harmy for his work and officially release his edits as their own.

re: Star Wars
Okay, so I guess I need to continue that post in a way that I originally found redundant and self-evident...
Or just hire him as an acknowledgement of his work and put him alongside their editors and engineers. If nothing else, it would show the rest of us that there's an unofficial fan seal of approval on whatever they put out as "original". There's no denying that with the success of TFA that Harmy's Despecialized editions have garnered more attention than ever. |

http://www.techhive.com/article/2881...nversions.html Feb 9, 2015 - NanoTech Entertainment said Monday that it had hired Petr Harmy, who created the Star Wars Despecialized Edition remastered trilogy, to help it convert existing movies into 4K resolution for its UltraFlix 4K streaming service. |
re: Star Wars
Also--and I appreciate Harmy's work, too--I doubt Disney (who has been notoriously strict about copyright and piracy) would want to publicly reward someone who has promoted illegal online distribution of their properties. It's one thing to look the other way to avoid alienating a large portion of your potential customers, but it's a different thing to give Harmy a seal of approval.

re: Star Wars
Well, Disney better get on it. People keep asking me for my copies. I know I could never distribute enough to put a dent in sales, but people I know aren't buying either... I gladly would.
2017 for the 40th & EpVIII makes a lot of sense to me. |

re: Star Wars
Harmy has stated there is going to be Star Wars 3.0 in 1080 p.
