I've read that some people are getting the original 5000 numbering instead of the revised 10,000. I would have rather recieved one of those. Oh, well.

Yeah... false advertising, anyone?

Personally, I think the whole artificial-scarcity bullet-point thing is a terrible joke, but if they're gonna do it, they should at least give us what we're paying for, right?

I find it rather odd, that out of two releases sent out the same day December 11th to me ('Bay of Blood' and 'Battle Royale') only one of them arrived today in the mail - and it wasn't 'Battle Royale'

Edit: I have also noticed that Arrow Video has announced that due to the unexpected high demand of the Limited Edition, they have increased the number being produced from 5,000 to 10,000

I'm not expecting mine until next week. I just received my Inception set on Monday and that shipped out a week earlier.

I sure did. However, I'm really not sure how it matters if and when they effectively said 'We're not giving you what you've already paid us for'; they're not giving it to us, either way.

Would you have canceled your order if you knew earlier about the pressing increase?

Personally speaking, I didn't pay for it because it was a limited edition (I think Amazon.co.uk said it was a special edition, and didn't mention the run amount). I paid for it because of the content, and the content is what I'll still be getting.

For example, I paid for the original 2-DVD Limited Edition of Army of Darkness that Anchor Bay released in the US. However, I wasn't too upset when Anchor Bay released the 2nd DVD on its own as a 2nd Limited Edition, then a non-limited edition, then repackaged with the first disc as a 2-DVD set again. I bought the LE because it was the best edition at the time, and I love the movie, not because it was a collectible.

If you're buying Blu-ray or DVD sets just because they're limited runs, you're buying them for the wrong reasons.

This may have something to do with the stall in order delivery:

Delivery and Weather Update

<img src="https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/02/x-locale/cs/help/images/spotlight/delay_snowman.png" align=left>Naturally because of Christmas, and with the recent weather causing delivery backlogs with our carriers, we are experiencing a large number of e-mails and phone calls from our customers asking whether deliveries will arrive in time. Some areas of Scotland are experiencing delays of up to three days, and deliveries to the rest of the UK may take up to two or three days longer than usual.

Due to adverse weather, we can't take any further orders for Christmas delivery. For an instant gift, consider giving a Gift Certificate.

I am hoping mine makes it here today or tomorrow otherwise with the holiday I will have to wait until next week to check it out. I live in the Midwest and it shipped on the 11th as well.

If they're going to build their promotion around blowing smoke up our butts (the whole 'limited edition' fallacy- as if any edition weren't limited), I'm going to hold them to their claims. We're picking up the tab on the allegedly valuable "exclusivity" of this release, so we deserve to actually receive what we're paying for, right?

Basically, it irks me that they lie to us about the 'limited edition' thing, in the first place, and then they don't even live up to their own lie. It's BS and they should be called on it.

It might have something with Amazon and other retailers jumping the gun and putting the limited edition for sale without consulting Arrow about the pressing quantity, so there's the possibility that it might have been a bit of pressure from overloaded online retailers that caused them to up the run. One in 10,000 is still a sexy number, and they did make that amended announcement shortly after the set became available for pre-order.

Arrow Video have been caught completely off guard by the demand for the limited edition release of Battle Royale on Blu-ray. After a raft of recent successful releases Arrow were confident that their calculations that 5000 numbered copies would be more than sufficient to meet demand. Such has been the flood of pre-orders with many people ordering multiple copies that Arrow Video would like to respond to the people worried that they will not be able to secure a copy by making a strictly once only increase in the number of units available. 10,000 numbered units of Battle Royale on Blu-ray will now be manufactured but that is the final tally. This will hopefully allow all those people who wish to pre-order in the coming weeks a chance to secure a copy and also allow for some stock to reach stores on release day.

Do you think that if the set wasn't numbered that it'd be cheaper?

Looking it up, it looks like only 6 days passed between Arrow announcing the initial number of 5,000 and their announcement of the revision to 10,000 copies.

What if your choice was between a 10K print-run and getting one VS. a 5K print-run and not getting one? Which very well may have been the case.

Since the announcement came from Arrow only days after the set was officially detailed, I'm surprised you didn't hear they were upping from 5k to 10k. My guess, honestly, is that they discovered too late that they had already "sold" more than 5k thanks to Amazon and other retailers, so they were forced to up the number to 10k.

Honestly, I don't care about the number. I care about the discs and all the stuff that's packed in with it.

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?

Big deal? No.

Something that would ever make me cancel my order? No.

However, Arrow made two mistakes here:

1) They should've kept some control over the pre-order process, so that they could actually honor their exclusivity promise (the original number).

2) They should have come up with a better solution to their failure to do that than "Oh, well, we'll just give our customers half of the exclusivity we promised them."

This is in support of a tired marketing gimmick which is insulting to their customers, in the first place.

I just think it's lame. Not the end of the world, but lame.

It's a business. They probably got caught off guard by the demand for the item. I understand how you may feel but it's not like they're charging a premium for this and who would say no to doubling their profits? I kind of felt the same way as you with the Beatles Mono Box since that was a lot more expensive and I busted my butt to get an early order in due to the fear of it selling out, but I'm happy to just have it.
