This sucks. I want the new digibook but I'm not real happy with the wrong aspect ratio. I doubt it will re-released again on blu in the US with the correct AR so I guess I'll go ahead and pick it up.

Yea, the New Line digibook coming out Tuesday is OAR. It's the Canadian Alliance version that's got the open mattes.

Yeah, the new digibook is the one to go with all the way: better transfer, correct ratio, extras, etc. I was just saying that I didn't see a huge difference between the OAR and the opened up frame.

If I rent them, I'll watch. So weird. There's just too much to watch between TV and those 3 constantly rotating Netflix discs.
You haven't watched that set? It was one of my favorites and most watched discs.

Okay, I'm confused. Other people in the thread (and the dvdbeaver review) made it sound like the new digibook was not the intended 2.35:1. I think I probably confused myself.

DVD Beaver review says "Obviously, the biggest issue is the correct aspect ratio (2.35:1 as opposed to the opened-up 1.78)."

and then this: "It was hard to match the captures as Canadian edition was showing the bastardized ratio"

I was confused at first also. Then I went back and re-read the Beaver review. It compares the Canadian Alliance BD to the upcoming US New Line digibook.

The New Line BD preserves the OAR (2.35:1), whereas the Alliance had opened up the mattes to 1.78:1. (FWIW, I still don't care for the open mattes, as it does not accurately represent artistic intent.)

If it's advertised in the weekly circular that means every story should be getting copies.

Walmart is apparently carrying an exclusive non-digibook version. It's supposed to be $19.99.

I wonder if they'll have the digibook version too. This is one movie where I actually wouldn't mind having a digibook.

Interesting. I'll grab the DB edition, but nice to see a normal release available.

Re: Se7en (Seven) Digibook -- 9/14/10

Glad to see a non DB for those who hate them but I love the digibooks and cant wait to get it on tuesday. I think it gives the buyer an extra bonus to go along with the movie besides a plastic case and a paper cover.

I haven't found much use for other digibooks but I have to say this one is well done especially with the glossy pages for photos.
