Honestly, they could fit both the 1.33:1 and 1.78:1 versions on the same disc.
170 minutes of 1080p material + uncompressed audio + audio commentaries = 40 GB
240 minutes of SD 480p material = 10 GB
Bam. Boom. You're done.

One by One is the same 50-minute documentary from the first disc of the Ultimate Edition. From what it reads like, they're porting the entire UE over to Blu-ray.

So in order to have the complete Evil Dead collection, you need the Book of the Dead edition (for Fanalysis), the Ultimate Edition (for original audio commentaries and the two Ladies of the Evil Dead featurettes) and this new Blu-ray for a new audio commentary and the film in HD.

Yesterday I traded in my UE for Blu rays. This is the first time since probably 1996 that I have not owned any edition of The Evil Dead. At least until August.

And yet, I go along with it anyway.

It drives me crazy too. What's the motivation behind this practice? Are they hoping consumers will want to hold onto their used DVDs for the extras? They don't see any profit from resale, so what difference would that make?

Well, I HAVE to keep my UE since it's signed by the "Ladies of The Evil Dead."

I'll buy this release, but it's going to take a lot more to prompt me to buy another version down the line.

Wait, they're actually including both aspect ratios? I didn't expect that.
I am dissapointed that Anchor Bay is leaving off features from the DVDs. However, after some of their more recent releases (Girl Next Door, Behind the Mask) I am just happy we're getting some extras at all.

I own both films (Book of the Dead editions) - I was just referencing High Fidelity. The slapstick vibe of ED II doesn't really do much for me anymore, so if I watched one of them again, it would be the original. If the BD gets to $9.99, I'll definitely double-dip.

Ratings/opinions seem pretty even on the two from my limited research of IMDB and RT, with perhaps a slight preference for the original, fwiw.
