Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

From Blu-Ray.com:

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced Alfred Hitchcock's horror classic Psycho for release on Blu-ray on October 19, in a "meticulously restored" 50th Anniversary Edition, with a new 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack (the original mono audio track will be included as well).

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4590

My question is, does this mean we can start seeing some more of those rumored Hitchock films, like "Vertigo" on Blu-ray soon?

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

Sigh. Great news, but unless I get on it right away, add this to the long list of Special Edition DVDs I bought and never watched before the Blu-Rays arrived.

At least I never sprung for Vertigo or Rear Window. Of course, that means Universal won't release 'em.

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

My favorite film of all-time, so I'm extremely excited about the official announcement. 5 months isn't too far off.

I consider this to be Hitchcock's best film, so I'm glad Universal actually decided to debut the very best first.

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

It would be nice to get a commentary this time around, in addition to the full-length doc on the previous release.

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

This 5.1 mix sounds kinda iffy, but the mono track has always sounded great so glad it's being included. Does anyone know if the original score was even recorded in stereo? I know there have been soundtracks released, but think they were all re-recordings done much later on.

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

Glad I held out when they released the newer SE of the film. About damn time. This will be my 1st or 2nd Hitchcock film. I still need to get North By Northwest.

I'm too lazy to check, but do those extras match the latest DVD release?

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

Looks like those features match the Legacy Series release. I know the commentary wasn't on the original version. I kinda hope the cover we get is from the Legacy release. Looks very cool.

I don't have my copy right in front of me, but I'm pretty sure everything from the Legacy Series release was ported over.

Perhaps this bodes well for Universal's other Legacy Series titles getting ported over to Blu...

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

It does include everything from the Legacy series edition except for the episode from Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Also, where is the Psycho Legacy documentary? It was supposed to be on the last release, but we have yet to see it.

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

I had forgotten completely about the Legacy disc. I'd love to see some of the classic horror Universal Legacy titles get HD upgrades.

What the hell? Are we ever going to see the Psycho Legacy documentary? I was really hoping it would make it on the BD.

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

I checked IMDB and the Psycho Legacy doc is a 2010 production and is due out in October, according to dreadcentral.com. Although I can't get their site working. I guess Universal may have pressed the BDs before the doc was finished. Looking at the cast participants, Jeff Fahey is one of them. That's awesome.

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

It's a documentary about all the Psycho movies. It was supposed to come out a year or two ago, but the release keeps getting a rumored release date and then vanishes.

Excellent! I was gonna buy it anyway, but at least I can get rid of the DVD now. I'll still have it on DVD in the Masterpiece box set.
