Re: The Wolfman (remake) - June 1st, 2010
Here's what I've read:
Also, this:
They must be both talking about the same thing.
The audio drops out at 1:29:55 o the unrated version...English track only.
I have had two copies of this with the same problem. Around 90 minutes into the film there is a problem with the audio. It makes a really annoying sound, lasts for a few minutes, and then stops. Two different copies, same problem at the same spot. Anyone know what is up with this?

^ Thanks, that's the first I've heard of this issue. Although I haven't picked this up yet, I do plan on doing so in the future - so I'm interested in hearing how this turns out.

I had a minor audio dropout as well, but that happens on scant few of my BDs (especially those by Universal). Wasn't a big enough deal to make me want to exchange it, though.
I really dug the DC. Sure, there's a lot that could have been changed to make this a better movie. But I think it's gorgeous, atmospheric and has some cool FX (minus the CGI).

I watched the unrated cut on my Sony 360. It played flawlessly. I saw this film in the theaters and the unrated cut definitely improves on the story, but it still should have been a better movie.
The early scene that shows Blunt visiting Del Toro to first tell him about his brother should have never been cut. That helps establish the 2 main leads a little better and shows us how concerned Blunt is. In the theatrical cut, after the opening attack sequence, you blink your eyes, and Del Toro is already on his way to England. It's a shame the Universal execs hit the panic button and made Johnston cut out so much screen time. They should have left the film the way it was and maybe it would have been received more positively from audiences.
The theatrical version is way too choppy and the pacing is all over the place.

Re: The Wolfman (remake) - June 1st, 2010
I just watched The Wolfman (Unrated cut). I rented it before deciding whether to buy it or not. I think I'm going to pass. It was enjoyable for the most part, but there were a few deal-breakers.
1. The look of the movie is WAY too clean. It looks very digitally processed. What it needed was a softer, grainier, more "analog" look to it. Kind of like Coppola's Dracula.
2. Anthony Hopkins shows up here to do exactly what Brando did in The Island of Dr. Moreau: act weird and wear goofy outfits.
3.
4. Why all the needless CG? CGI bears and deer? They couldn't find any real ones? And why couldn't they do practical transformations, instead of CG ones? It was done way back in the 80s in The Howling and American Werewolf in London. I'm not one to complain about CG for cityscapes, spaceships, etc. But CG monsters just aren't scary.
I'll admit it was a fun rental, but I just can't bring myself to buy it.

I agree with you, but to be fair, if you watch the extras, they show the practical bear effect they were going to use before replacing it with CGI. As bad as the CG is, the bear costume is even worse.

But why not just use the bear from The Edge? Or how about no bear at all? The cartoon bear was a real distraction.

Do you have to be familiar with the original to enjoy the remake? Cause, I didn't. The story was all over the place. I really like the people in it, but the general arc of what was happening had so many holes, I was constantly taken out of the loop with thoughts of "hey, what? That doesn't make sense..."
So yeah, I have no comments to offer on the Blu-Ray, since I don't want it.

....so....why post here? We have a movies forum for this.
And no..you don't need to know about the classic original...cuz it's a remake.

I bought the movie and thought it was ok, not great but good enough to buy.
I agree with you about your spoiler though. the "smackdown" scene was comical more than anything.( don't want to give anymore away to protect your spoiler ) but I liked the period of the movie like the original
and it was a good buy for me.
