Re: Why HDMI 1.4 Doesn't Make Sense
Are 1.3 devices compatible with 1.4?
If you're going to go with all new cabling anyway, why not replace the utterly broken HDMI signaling standard with one that works?

Well it should be backwards compatible so I'm tempted to say yes. However this change seems messier than advertised so we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Why HDMI 1.4 Doesn't Make Sense
1 benefit for HDMI 1.4 seems to be the return audio feature... IOW with a 1.4 compliant set and receiver, you won't need a 2nd HDMI or toslink cable from the TV back to the receiver to pipe audio; just 1 HDMI connection will do the trick. But, again, this requires everything to support it. Seems a bit late for many people to go out and buy all new stuff for HDMI 1.4.

Yeah, that's a practical benefit but not something major that would make people want to upgrade. So they're pushing 3D hard.
