I know about those, but I figured that if we're going to get it at all in the next few years, there wouldn't be a better time than as a tie-in with this.

Re: Disney wants to bring Alice in wonderland 2010 to Bluray DVD & VOD sooner than us

I'm waiting for the point where movies only get a theatrical release once they've sold well on Blu-ray/DVD/digital download/streaming/whatever. Let a theatrical exhibition be an achievement for commercial success, rather than a preview of home video release. I know the prevailing sentiment holds that direct-to-video = low quality, but then, so many other norms of the movie industry have changed in the last few decades I see no reason this couldn't also be altered. I say move Redbox and Netflix from the rear to the frontline; circulate those rentals/streams to generate word of mouth and interest and then see what movies are worthy of being shown on a big screen.

I paid a whole $6.50 to see Avatar in 3D. The premium couldn't have been more than a dollar or two. And it was well worth it because I'd already seen it in 2D and the difference was profound.

I'll read reviews first, but I think that Alice In Wonderland might be worth a shot in 3D for $6.50. And, if not, I certainly won't be buying it on BD.

I can sort of understand why Disney wants to get the DVD/BD out before the summer doldrums. I've noticed that it's a waste of time to try to sell DVDs in July and August.

Not sure where you get to see 3D films (or any new release) for $6.50, but I have to pay about double that here in California.

the Max we pay here at the Cinemark near Campus is $10.75. BUT if you go on Student Thursdays (which makes all films that day $3.50), it's just an added $2.50. So...6 bucks for me. BUT I saw it on opening day. so yeah...Avatar was the high price for me.

But its still only on average 2 dollars more.
Mann theatres 3D ticket costs 12.75 for weekday and evenings
Mann Theatres regular ticket 10.75 for weekday and evenings

Mann theatres 3D tickets cost 13.75 on fridays after 6 till sunday morning
Mann theatre regular ticket costs 12.75 on fridays after 6 till sunday morning.

Mann theatres 3D/Dbox ticket 20.00 anytime.( this one is the highest premium but note its Dbox plus Real D)

Arclight cinemas 3D tickets cost 16.00 weekday and evenings
Arclight cinemas regular ticket costs 13.00 weekday and evenings

Arclight cinemas 3D ticket costs 17.00 on weeknds
Arclight cinemas regular tickets cost 15.00 on weekends

El Capitan 3D ticket costs 13.00 on weekdays and evenings
El capitan regular ticket costs 12.00 on weekdays and evenings

El Capitan 3D ticket costs 15.00 on weekends
El Captian regular tickets cost 13.00 on weekends

thats just a sampling of three of the most Prestige Theatres in Los Angeles as you can see the premium is on average 2 dollars extra to see in 3D
for the average person that is very reasonable.

Plus you do realize that So Cal ticket prices are about double the average of the rest of the country, for regular movies.

I'd prefer they release Alice in Wonderland over all of this year's scheduled Disney titles, except Fantasia.

I have a feeling we will be seeing the animated Alice in Wonderland latter this year when Burtons Alice comes out.

I'm not sure why you are (continuosly) bitching. How often are you forced to see a movie in 3D when the same movie isn't also being screened nearby in 2D?

Because I have no interest in 3D and wish movies wouldn't be filmed with 3D in mind because when watched in 2D certain scenes look stupid? I don't know, maybe I just don't like the stupid fad. Nor the fact that to own certain movies on Blu-ray I will have to pay the possible stupid 3D premium to do so. Not everyone is jumping on the 3D bandwagon. I saw the demo at a Sony Style store over the weekend (running on a PS3) and was not impressed at all. If that's what 3D looks like for home consumers, I'm glad I'll be passing.

$6.50x2 = $13 so I'm pretty much right on the money. I don't typically go to those Theaters though, usually Regal or Muvico (which is thankfully only a few times a year). No way I'd spend that much to see a movie in a Theater when I can buy in 3 months later for less (since I always go with the GF).

not really though, cause 3d is only 2 to 3 dollars more than a regular ticket, the way you state it, you make it seem like the premium is even higher.
and the theatres i mentioned are the most prestigious in L.A. so they have the highest prices. I know for a fact that muvico isnt more than that unless you are watching it the vip section( i worked in their Home office in the booking dept for a long time so iam quite familar with the pricing they have for theatres they have in different areas of the country. and I still have connections with them as well) and even regals most prestige theatre(L.A. Live) doesnt charge more than that so really i dont get your reasoning for not wanting to see 3D but then again iam sure that doesnt matter lol.
I will just say you are really missing out not experiencing these in theatres.

but its your choice and at the end of the day your thinking for yourself is what matters most.

That particular venue was a single screen theater in the small town of Delta, Colorado. I was somewhat concerned that they wouldn't do a good job of projecting the 3D, but it was absolutely perfect. Saved me an even longer trip to the "big city" of Grand Junction (population ~55,000).

If I had to face the prices I see for LA or NYC theaters, I'd be reluctant to visit theaters also. But people who skip the theater to wait for Avatar on BD are missing out, it really does need to be seen in 3D.

Like you, I am concerned that the rush to put everything out in 3D will lead to higher prices and, perhaps, poorer looking 2D versions. Do I really want to see Harry Potter 7 in 3D? No. Does this new Alice in Wonderland movie really need to be in 3D? Perhaps, we shall see. But the trailer doesn't look very good.

From the perspective of theater owners, anything that gives movie theaters a leg up over home theater would seem to be very attractive. I can see a rapid adoption of 3D projection systems to the point that it becomes standard.

That was its opening weekend, yes.

BTW, I wouldn't put much stock in Sweeney Todd's box office performance. An R-rated adaption of a Sondheim musical? It's not the kind of thing that's going to connect with mainstream audiences. I'm just glad it got made at all.

Twilight in 3D?

I read something on that, the thought of it is just hilarious. Breaking Dawn is shaping up to be the most phenomenally awful movie of the new decade.

To their credit, Alice isn't a gothic musical.

Ok...that is pretty fucking hilarious. I can't wait to see how they pull it off. But c'mon, Warner made a movie out of a book that was 12 pages long, surely Summit can turn the above into a masterpiece.

Just got back home from the Alice in Wonderland Hot Topic Fan event at hollywood and highland,
where several of the cast were at, some punk goth band called almost alice performed and where we were shown the movie, at El capitan. I can Definately see why they are wanting to rush this to home video now, this is going to have a huuuuuuuge Drop in ticket sales after opening weekend.
Wow talk about a movie that is going to have a very limited fan base, i walked away so disapointed.

Stop the presses! The guy who hates 3D in the theater also hates it on TV.

GF is dying to see this film, but with it hitting BD so soon, I might be able to skip out on going to see it.
