I thought I noticed some lyp sync issues at the part when he picks up the kid who speaks both german and french. But then again I wasn't looking for it. I will double check later today.

You know I haven't watched the whole thing since the week the DVD originally came out so I don't remember much. I've probably watched the landing portion half a dozen times (most recently on TNT HD) so I'm looking forward to watching the whole thing via the BR I bought yesterday.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

I just watched the entire film. If there are sync issues, they got past me. I didn't notice anything out of sync. I'm bitstreaming from player to receiver. Damon's story about his brothers is supposed to be one location where the audio is out of sync, but it seems to match up just fine to me. Another is at 2:19:30 where Barry Pepper's character shoots one of the Germans. Once he gets shot, I hear the gunshot sound. I read that was supposed to be off. The other scene to test is supposed to be around 2:18:58 where the camera is showing the end of the machine gun blasting. The out of sync issue is supposed to show the flash from the blast before you hear the actual sound. But again, they match up for me.

My copy was from Amazon.

The BD is outstanding. Just like the DTS on the DVD, this DTS-HD mix is superb and is reference quality. The image looks terrific with all the grain nicely displayed. Towards the end, when the first German tank shows up on screen, it sounds like it's outside the house.

Well this is weird, none of the Targets, Walmarts, or Kmarts seem to be carrying this bluray in my area. FYE said they never received their order and are on backorder? And BestBuy was sold out, eventhough their website said they have them in stock... looks like Im gonna have to place an order w/ Amazon.

My Target didn't have any, but FYE had a ton.

My copy freezes at 1:28:37, chapter 12. Eventually it goes back to the main menu after sitting a few minutes. I tried washing it off & it still freezes there. I tried going to chapter 13 from the main & it wouldn't play there either. I don't want to send it back to Amazon. Will best Buy let me exchange it for the same without a recepit?

Considering most are not having issues with the disc, perhaps it may be a model or firmware issue?

WalMart would be an easier avenue for this than Best Buy.

picked this up at BB yesterday. No problems so far, other than everytime I watch this movie, I think "This LOST to Shakespeare in Love?????"

My player's an older Panasonic, but it has the latest firmware. I was having problems getting African Queen to play right at first (also Paramount), so it may be player related. I'll have to check another player.

My copy played flawlessly. I didn't notice any lip sync issues, but I wasn't staring at every frame looking for it.

LOL yea I thought the same thing that year but once I watched Shakespeare in Love I could not argue that it was a dumb choice......that movie was done every well and so was the screenplay and acting......all around it was a great movie!......they are both different types of movies and I would have chosen SPR but I'm not surprised SinL won.

I am glad this seems to not have issues. It sounds like there were morons thinking the audio is off with the gunshot and stuff, but that is intentional; that the viewer sees the shot and impact before they hear the report of the gunshot.

Some are also experiencing a sync issue in the scene where Hanks is messing with the cappuccino machine. He picks up the lid and slams it back down. They're saying that is off too.

I got it at Best Buy but my Walmart had it too. It looks great and played fine.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Finally watched it earlier and i gotta admit it looked gorgeous on bluray. However I did actually notice ALOT of syncing issues with the audio though... The weird thing is though after I watched it on my Insignia bluray player, I popped it on my ps3 and the syncing issues werent that bad? I mean, there's definitely audio issues, but maybe its also depending on the player too?

I'm undecided if I should just return it back to walmart since it is technically a defect, and since I know they don't have anymore in stock, I could just get my money back and wait till corrected versions become available....

Mr. Cinema 05-07-10 04:58 PM

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Jeff Kleist posted on blu-ray.com that if a disc is actually defective, it will freeze up. It won't be out of sync. So based on that, it seems like a fix would be made via firmware.

For information purposes, my player is the SONY 350 going into a Pioneer Elite receiver and Panasonic TV. No noticeable issues on the first perusal.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Well, I've tried bitstreaming AND LPCM from my Oppo BDP-83 to my Pioneer 1019 AHK, and there's most definitely an audio sync issue from chapter 15 on. It's really easy to spot, and I dunno, the discs themselves might not be defective, but SOMETHING glitched somewhere down the line. I mean, the movie is perfectly in sync up until that point, and BAM, it's just out of whack until the end of the movie. Maybe it was an error in authoring that just went unnoticed?

*Sighs* Maybe I'll return this and exchange it for Minority Report.

Jeff updated saying he may have an answer about this in a few weeks. Could be end of next week, but could be a bit longer. Could be a simple firmware update of some kind. Maybe the problem is some sort of HDMI handshake issue.

mzupeman2 05-08-10 08:03 AM

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

If it's an HDMI handshake issue, why would the first half of the movie play fine, and then not after 2 hours into the film? I even tried renegotiating the handshake.

DVD Polizei 05-08-10 10:52 AM

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Because HDMI handshake issues can happen at any time during a movie. Think of an HDMI handshake as a blind date. You might get along for an hour or so...and then it all goes to shit. Or you might do just fine for the entire night. You never know.
